So i just took my vette outta storage about a week ago, and the engine obviously didn't just fire up, the battery was a little week.
Now that I have put a fair amount of KM's i woul have suspected the battery problem to have gone away. Now when I start the car, I get a clicking type noise as if the batter was dead but then it fires up. Everything seems to be reset (HUD, Clock on Radio). The battery is pretty new, its less then a year old.
During driving the VOLTS range between 13.8 to 14.2 even with all the gadgets on (radio, acc).
Is this just an good old battery problem (won't recharge) or do you think somehting else may be causing the battery to drain while sitting.
What should I do if the battery is smoking like a chimney .....
You still didn't mention what kind of battery it is. I am assuming it is a stock AC Delco. See procedure below for more info. (thanks to patches). I would recommend that you DO NOT try to jump start or crank the engine. This is to prevent any damage to the electrical system.
Disconnest the negative (black) cable first and then the positive cable. Unscrew the bolt holding the hold-down block at the front center of the battery's base. Lift the battery carefully out of the tray, pulling it foward first to clear the lip at the back of the tray.
Check the tray carefully for acid or corrosion that may have leaked out of the battery if it's an older non-AGM or gel-cell battery. If you do find signs of a leak, you'll need to pull the tray and wheel well liner and check the PCM for damage. Cleanup can be accomplished with a baking soda/water solution.
If all looks fine, proceed with the new battery install, reversing the removal of the old battery. Connect the red positive cable first and then the negative. If you're installing an Optima, you may want to contact them and ask about their better hold-down block.
So the battery has stopped smoking but you can hear some bubbling ..... is it safe to to remove it, any other precautions I should take besides some eye protection.
Got the battery out, the tray looks fine. Anyone have an idea why a battery would just start to steam like that? onto battery #3 when the stores open up.
Sulphation has occurred on the plates in the battery. While stored, the battery was not kept at a sufficient level of charge. Next year, use a battery tender.

Time for a new battery.
Batteries REALLY don't like deep discharging! They are not designed to be deep-cycled (being completely drained and recharged). There is a small amount of parasitic drain put on a battery when a car is in storage. This drain is not enough to warrent keeping a full-blown battery charger connected. That's why they make battery tenders. Please replace your "smoking battery" ASAP.
