[QUOTE=indy300]Ok this is what I found out. I took the headlight cover off and looked down inside the fascia and saw a big spring pulling the bent area down. WFT. If the pictures show up you can see how much tension was in the spring. I then loosened the fascia connection to the body panel in the bent area to try and relieve the stress on the fascia. It moved a little. With any luck at all, the fascia will move back to its original position over time. I doubt it, but I'm not going to let this thing ruin the car for me![QUOTE]
Those springs are what hold the turn/parking light assembly in place. They belong there, but shouldn't pull the fascia down like that. they are either in the wrong hole, or another fastener is missing from the fascia.
I suspect a missing fastener that was just to tough for the used car body man to bother putting back in.

Try to find another location for the upper end of that spring to attach to.

I can't get to mine right now to see if that is the right spot or not
does anyone know why only 1 of my 4 pictures appears correctly in my previous post? I linked the photos the same way and the files are located at the same place. I've tried to redo the linking and it still doesn't work correctly.
Go to the test area and try post the good picture two or three times in the same post. Then if that doesn't work you'll know it's the server that's stopping the access. I usually post pics with numbers. ie: tiinstall1.jpg tiinstall2.jpg and that usually works. Once I had to re-name the files once they were on the server for them to work. And watch for names being case sensitive. My .02
The carfax report and service history are both clean. The fascia isn't cracked underneath. I haven't had it up on jack stands yet to get a good look at the front. I'll wait for the oil change.
Thanks for posting my picture here! I've determined its Webshots causing the problem.
The mention of "springs" jogged my memory. Wasn't there a post within the last 6-7 days about Breathless headlights, the lack of clear instructions for their installation, and a "spring" that nobody seemed to know where it went? Maybe this car had them at one time, since the bumper deformation seems to be the same on both sides. Just a thought....
I read through the service manual and found where the spring should go. The top of the spring is supposed to attach to the fascia at a much lower location. Whoever was inside there didn't know what they were doing.
Well, the best of luck to ya... and let us know how it goes... Coud this be something that with a blow dryer, and a little bit of time... something that could be "Bent" back out?

God, I hope it will reshape on its own.
I have a schematic from the service manual of where the spring is supposed to go (and where it was on mine) if anyone wants to see it. I can scan it in and post it up somehow...
You guys can check your cars, it easy! Just remove the black platic frame (3 screws) around the front and sides of your headlight. With the headlights in the up position, you can see right down into the fascia area. Theres really a lot of room behind the fascia....
Did you ever determine if your fasteners were torqued correctly...I have seen this problem on another vette, although not as sever as yours. Let me know what you find out. Thanks
There was no fastener at the location of the deformations. The turn signal housing retaining spring was hooked to a random hole at the area of deformation instead of onto the fascia just above the turn signal housing.
Call me crazy, but I've had the spring removed from the improper location for 2 days and I think I see the deformed fascia areas slowly moving back to the correct position. I'll keep you guys posted
Here you go! Here is a diagram from the service manual of the inside of the fascia. The turn light housing slides into the turn light opening in the fascia. The housing is held in place by two bolts and a spring. I marked where the top of the spring is supposed to go and where mine was located. The spring is typically about 3" long laying relatively horizontal when connected properly. However mine was stretched to about 4.5" long nearly vertical pulling down on the top of my fascia! Someone was way off. At the very top of the diagram (directly under my writing) is where the cutout for the headlight is located.
PS: if the picture actually appears, it is because I switched from Webshots to Photobucket!
