i had to laugh today
heres the scene easter morning 8:00 am
i was leaving walmart this morning
weve all seen walmart parking lots pretty massive to say the least
(at least here in louisiana)
well im a fellow vette owner and care for my car as much as the next guy
but there were maybe 50 total cars in the parking lot when i was leaving when i see this 2004 ce z06 pull into the parking lot and low and behold guess where he decides to park
yep almost the very fartherest spot away he could
i understand being careful but man 50 cars in a parking lot of 600 and he picks one of the last
i dont know maybe his love goes a little deeper than mine but ive never had a bad experience parking like normal cars and i try to find a far one if its peak time on a busy day but i guess to each his own
But it could have been! But it I drive a regular coupe (not a Z06). I am also about 60 miles away from Plaquemines in Lafayette.
Wal Mart has not been kind to my vehicles. Last year my 2003 Trialblazer (which I just sold) was vandalized (windshield broken) in broad daylight in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart.
I try to drive the Blazer when I make the trip to Wally-World.
maybe the shopping carts run out of gas before they get that far out...i was walking out of a store the other day and noticed an un-manned shopping cart headed for someone's vehicle..i ran and grabbed it before it hit the car..i think it's pretty crappy that someone would be so careless...
I hope this doesn't sound too rude but get one parking lot ding from a cart or car and see where you park. I'm with the CE driver, the further the better just my .02
I know someone that went to Walmart parked way out in the parking lot with his just freshly painted 73. Only to come out and find a car parked right in front of his car and must have bumped it when parking. Put a nice chip in the front bumper. You can never be too careful sometimes.
If I were to ever drive mine to Walmart, it most likely would be even further out. The thing you have to worry about at places like Walmart even more so than door dings from other cars is the shopping carts people leave all over the lot. Have you ever seen the damage that one of these runaway carts can do to a car?
I have to say that I park as far away as necessary to get the job done...or at least far enough away to make sure no job gets done on my car. I have witnessed, on three occasions in the last four months, some azzhole open their door into my Saab 9-5 as I approach. They didn't know it was mine and tried to walk away after glancing at it with disinterest.
Folks, let me say that there is nothing like me dropping the F-bomb at high volume and asking them what the hell is wrong with them to regain their interest. I can't imagine what king of f*c#ing barn these people grew up in. Inconsiderate conduct aside, if someone is so GD uncoordinated that they cannot keep a car door from dinging the one next to it, they shouldn't be on the road. It should be a component of the test to get a license. Imagine it...a row of fake cars with big door, and if you open it too far it hits the trigger of a 12-g shotgun and just eliminates the scum from the planet.
I know that sounds a bit extreme, but I have gotten quite worked up over this subject. I am not even a car nut like most of you, it is just a matter of common f&8king courtesy. Between parking lots at college, law school, work and hotels (where I am right now) my vehicles have sustained more marks than your average leper. I can honestly say that I have never done that to anyone's vehicle.
Additionally, as much as I like kids, they should be locked in the rear of a vehicle like criminals in a police car...you know, where the door can only be opened from the outside and presumably by a responsible adult. Last summer some snot dripping, slobbering little redneck spawn, probably 6 or 7 years old kicked open the door his parents car and dinged the Saab...he then tried, unsuccessfully, to stand an ice cream cone (flat bottom kind) upright on the trunk of my car while he tied his shoe. All this as I walked from the store toward the car. Who got the F-bomb?...his parents (I still couldn't bring myself to yell at a kid). The kid probably had to wash his ears out with soap after listening to my tirade. Anyway, that's enough from me before I have a stroke.
So....to the guy that parked all the way on the end at Wal-Mart...sometimes you have to do what you have to do. If the morons aren't dinging your car they are doing something else to cause a problem.

I'll have to admit that on the rare occasion that I take the vette to any kind of store parking lot, I try to park away from the main cluster of cars. I don't go to the outer reaches, but I'll definitely leave 15 or 20 open spots around me to keep idiots from parking next to me. To me, if you park too far away, you can't keep an eye on the car, and you may make it easy for a jealous vandal to "key" the car. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but you never know.

Sounds normal to me - I do the same thing. Unfortunately, even when I park so far out, most times that I come back to the car I find someone has still parked close to me.
