Filled up with Shell 93 V-Power, and caused my gas guage to go wacko. i do not suggest using that gas. Have never had any problems using the Chevron. Filled 'er up with Chevron and the guage works again. So much for wishfull thinking
I have been using SHELL here in SOCAL and have had no problems. Yeah it is 2 octane lower than 93 but it is still SHELL.
Someone gas guy probably put the wrong octane in the tank.

the gauge problem has nothing to do with octane. I believe it's related to the sulfur content of the fuel.
Shell admitted to having high Sulfur content in the past, but I thought all that was fixed.
I have been using Shell gas about 95-98% of the time for the last 3 years in the car. I have had ZERO problem, UNTIL these last 2 months. Recently, my guage has started to go a little squirely. I will likely go with Chevron next fill up to see if it disappates after a few tanks.
I was a faithful user of Amoco until my fuel guage went out. I read in another thread on faulty fuel guages that it was the brand of gas that caused the problem due to sulfur or some other content. I had the problem fixed under warranty - it was a faulty sending unit in the right tank. It was about the same time Amoco was taken over by BP. I tried using BP but didn't like the stations around here and switched to Shell. Been using Shell for over a year now and have not had any problems with the fuel system - not even any unpleasant odors from the exhaust. So Shell's okay with me.
I normally use Chevron....but switched to V-Power. After a few tanks, my car ran noticeably worse, and on a dyno it lost power/torque and had detonation. I switched back to Chevron and all is again very well.
My wife uses Shell 93 Octane V-Power in her DD, and guess what, in the past 2 months the gas gauge has gone wacky. She filled up at Citgo today, we'll see if that does anything.
I use Shell,Exxon/Mobil, or BP/Amoco. Never ever have I had any problems with any of them.
Around town I use nothing but Shell in all my cars. When traveling I will look for Shell, but settle for Exxon/Mobil or BP/Amoco. I never had a gas gauge problem.
