You're right on for a stocker, maybe off a couple of tenths. You'll always have some superstars who claim to do 13.0 second quarters in a stocker but realistically, you're right where your supposed to be. Now free up the exhaust, install some gears........
Drop your tire pressure to 26 lbs. Many guys I know say this helps a lot. Those run-craps suck at the strip! As many others just said, it's all in the launch.
Why the heck should a stock C5 run a 14 flat? That what Stang GTs do? My old 01 Z28 with only a muffler ran a 13.34 @ 105mph my very first pass at the track and I had never set foot on a drag strip before. It was an A4 with 2.73 gears too.
Like I said, I'm not talking about "professional drivers" launching with the optimal parameters in the best atmospheric conditions. We're talking A4 cars here in the real world where the light turns green and you hit the gas and go. My '99 ran a 13.7-13.9 right out of the box at no more than 103 MPH. For a stock '97 A4 to run high 13's to 14 is not unusual.
without a doubt work that reaction time and you'll se a huge difference. On street tires with my first install of my Mag and second time ever at a dragstrip I ran a 12.4 with a 2.4 60' time! I have not run it since with the new install (smaller pulley, etc etc), and now on nitto drag radials but I'm hoping for some nice numbers.
Problem is mine is a vert and E-town here in Jersey keeps remembering me and I get booted. Anyone know a track in/near NJ that will let me go for it...I mean at least one time I'd like to go all out and see what I run!!!
You will get it down in the 13s with a bit more gas at the line. A friend of mine with a A4 and Stinger intake ran in the 13.2.
The hardest part is the launch. I have 4.10s in my car and because I get no traction at the launch I so far have only run a 13.31 with street tires. I know with DRs I could be in the high 12s....
Next time out I plan on feathering the clutch a bit to get a better 60 foot time then the 1/4 mile will just come...
I would appreciate any inf or tips you have (I am certain to be going back)!!!
I know the car is capable of better times, its operator error that needs the fixin'!

I took my 99 coupe (Stock) to the track (Atco, NJ) for the first time on Tuesday night. My first run was a 13.484. My next two runs, I red lighted :o. Then I ran a 13.274. My last three runs were not as good, mostly due to traction: 14.269, 14.405, and 14.072. I had a great time and will definitely be going back again.

You ever try Atco? I'm thinking of going there this year. E-town gets too crowded. You're lucky to get 3 passes a night.

and thats gonna do what with run craps I'm pretty sure you could run 0 pressure and still spin them to at least 50mph
I have a completely stock '04 A4 coupe with 3.15 axle. On my only trip to the dragstrip, my best run was 14.1 @ 99 mph. This was at an elevation of 3400 ft on a warm spring day in AZ last year. Really hadn't planned to go that day, so I had a full tank of gas and some junk in the back. Didn't know to check my weight as I exited the strip, so I have no idea what the car weighed that day.
A friend of mine who's really into racing (and math) did some calculations to adjust the time and trap speed for altitude, temperature, and atmospheric pressure and came up with an adjusted set of numbers that were about 13.1 @ 106. He did say he thought the adjusted numbers were to good to be true.
By the way, I had active handling on and just stomped on it in drive. I've read others on the forum say that the best way to run a stock A4 in the quarter is to use third gear in competition mode, then stomp it. Don't bother to try to bring up the RPMs. I plan to give it another try before it gets too hot.
