97 Coupe A4, 315 gears, only mod was a Z06 air lid...
My main issues were:
1) first time at track
2) Bad reaction times!!
3) loss of traction!!
Made two runs, first was the 14 @ 101, the second was a 14.2 @ 100 due to the line up guy talking to me as the tree lights were running down! before I realized it- it was green and I sat there...I was running a 5.0 rustang mid 80's...he ran a 14.6 and even though he got the jump on me...I managed to catch and pass him 3/4 track!
I need to practice my launches...just nailing it from a stop caused major tire spin on the run flats- after talking to another C5 guy at the track, he said just take off a little harder then you would normally do from a light, then push it to the floor...
Oh well- live and learn...it was a great night, and I had fun! plus I beat 2 mustangs! one old, one new!
your reaction time does not effect your quarter mile time, when youre at a test and tune. Where is Coconut Creek, I think we need to have a drag racing 101 sometime soon! the drage strip is definetly a great time! Also were you running with TC on or off?

Chris
I also had terrible 60 foot times... 2.33 and 2.5 something...I figure if I pull those down, I could also get a better quarter mile time...? I ran with the TC in the OFF position, I found out the hard way during the tire warm up phase what that thing does that my 94 didn't!! it fell flat on its face as soon as the tires started spinning...like someone pulled the plug on the motor!
I would appreciate any inf or tips you have (I am certain to be going back)!!!
Coconut Creek is roughly 3 hours South of you in Orlando...I am about 15 minutes out of Fort Lauderdle...the track is Moroso MotorSports Park in West Palm Beach. Unfotunately it was busy last night for "Test and Tune" so I only got two runs in...
I know the car is capable of better times, its operator error that needs the fixin'!

Just takes practice to get your launch down. The car should be capable of around a mid-13 ET. Nice job with the Mustangs and have fun next time at the track.
14.0 sounds like wheel spin. What was your 60' time?
You can sit at the green all day, the time does not start until you move. In a heads up race, you mght be faster but can still loose, because you were late on the tree.
look at the 60' times. For every .1 seconds you can drop that your total ET will reduce at least .2 or more. The drag race is all about the 60', it's the most important part of the race.
You're right on for a stocker, maybe off a couple of tenths. You'll always have some superstars who claim to do 13.0 second quarters in a stocker but realistically, you're right where your supposed to be. Now free up the exhaust, install some gears........

Why the heck should a stock C5 run a 14 flat? That what Stang GTs do? My old 01 Z28 with only a muffler ran a 13.34 @ 105mph my very first pass at the track and I had never set foot on a drag strip before. It was an A4 with 2.73 gears too.

Most of the Stangs last night were in the high 14's...most about 14.5...except one cobra that ran a 12.86 which was impressive for a stock out of the box ford...
I think\hope to at least get a 13.5 or better (I am pretty sure she will do it) but the out of the hole with run flats is crap...even (on my second attempt) I took off harder then normal less wheel spin, but when I got on it...it lit up...then along comes second (which I feel is a beast) cuz it ripped them lose again...I need to get a set of drag radials and practice launching...I think that was my biggest problem...too much torque for those tires not to spin...

and maybe by more than a "couple" tenths.
If one with a C5 A4 w/3.15 - in the Competitive Driving mode - powerbraking @ 1400rpm - launching on the third yellow by pressing the accelerator down to the floor at a 1.5 to 2 second rate... and doesn't run at least a 13.5 - should have a few items checked on the engine.

But keep the comments coming...
I can understand someone new running a 14.0 in a C5. I would probably do the same and I have a hard enough time with traction in my A4 3.15 C5 from a roll, much less a dig. Just work on your launching. You should be able to hit no worse than a 13.5 with proper weather and track prep. If my typical LS1 Fbod time was a 13.3-13.6, Im sure a C5 can do it.
