Unsolicited Vette Net roadtest
The major difference between the old and new design is, the height of the new one is about 5" shorter than the old and the 'net' is now lexan.
I jumped on the bandwagon and placed my order immediately. It was delivered today! Great service. Thank you Heather!
Visually its really a classy looking add-on. It looks expensive and fits like a glove. It looks like its a factory option. And being its so short its not as noticible as one might expect. Although it is obvious it blends well with the lines of the car.
My Corvette is Millenium Yellow w/black cockpit. With that combination the black frame of the VetteNet is absolutely complimentary to the car.
Also interesting is the lower part of the frame and lexan is curved to allow you to move the seat back quite far. Then its curved towards the dash at the waterfall.
It took about 10 seconds to install. I lifted the back hatch, slid the two brackets in place, then slide the Vette Net shaft-ends into the bracket tubes.
Someone asked in the thread I saw last week if they thought it would work with hoops installed. Don't take my word for it but I don't think so. If it does, it'll be a REAL tight fit.
First impression windows down: Its not as effective as I'd hoped it would be but the wind noise muffles the sound of the Vette Net rattling in the bracket tubes (read below).
Windows up: It works like a dream! It works exactly as advertised, cuts out the wind buffeting and noise, allows you to hear your stereo MUCH better, keeps the heat in (it was 59 deg. OAT during my test ride and I was wearing a wife-beater T. I set my A/C to 75 degrees and I was comfortable, even at my shoulders.) Two person conversations no longer become a yelling match.
Only negative in window up configuration is, it cuts down so much of the wind noise that the random rattling of the VetteNet shaft that slips down into the bracket tubes on either side might become annoying during a long trip. It would have been nice to see the top of the bracket tube insulated with rubber or there be another method (allen set screw?) to secure the VetteNet shafts to the bracket tubes.
I did both tests up to 70 mph. Like I said, top-down-windows down isn't going to impress you (there is some improvement) but top-down-windows-up configuration is fantastic!
The only problem, who ever drives their Corvette convertible with the top down and windows up?
Important. If you must put your top up while using the Vette Net then you MUST remove the it before doing so and store it in your trunk. This isn't cool if you have a trunk partition as you may need to remove the partition. I didn't test storing it in the trunk.
Also, if you happen to be carrying much in the trunk you're going to play hell trying to fit it amonst the other stuff.
The reason I make the above observation is, if you pack for a trip and plan to do some of your excursion with the top down while your bags are still in the trunk and you run into rain say. You are going to have a bit of a challenge making the Vette Net fit along with your luggage and and other stuff.
One thing for sure, you'll probably end up leaving the the partition home if you have one.
Of course you probably won't want to scratch it so, an optional extra-cost carry bag is available. I chose not to order it.

Thanks for the Review
Lets see some photos of your vehicle and the Vett Net installed.

That was me. From looking at the pictures, it looked to me that the VetteNet just would not fit with the hoops.
I spoke with Heather and she couldn't tell me for certain whether the VetteNet would fit or not. (Seems strange that, by now, they still don't know.) She told me that I could buy the VetteNet and use their 30 day guarantee if it didn't fit but that I'd have to return it at my own expense.
I didn't buy one.
And, like you said, who drives around with the top down and windows up?
BTW, very nice review!
Today I drove RT from San Diego to W. Covina (LA). In the morning it was quite cool so I rode the whole distance with the windows up.
With the VN and windows up, heater set to 75 it was real nice ride. Lots of road noise blocked so the stereo sounded good and you could feel the heater. Only occasionally you might hear a quick rattle. It isn't as often as I might have made it seem and it isn't as bothersome as I my writing may have indicated.
On the way home it was around 90+ deg. in the sun; really hot. I put the windows down.
At 90 deg. OAT, and windows down it was great (ie. it allowed lots of moving air circulation.
All in all, I'm keeping it!
I mentioned this before but must mention it again, it is VERY classy and expensive looking. It REALLY blends well with the car's lines. It definitely does NOT detract.
Also, with the top bar lower than the older style model it did not interfere with my view in rear view mirror. Of course that would depend on where you set your seat and how long of a torso you have.
Ideally, I wish it would come with storage mounting clips or snap-in brackets you could attach to the inside of the trunk lid werein you could snap it into place on the underside of the trunk lid when you want to run without it.

Thanks for the info - I think I'll skip it!
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Now if Vette Net wants to pay me to advertise their product I'd gladly take the time to take photos.
Seriously, I'm sure they can provide you much better photos than I could if you ask them.
All I can say is, it really does look good. It doesn't detract in any way IMO.
Plus I believe Vette Net has a lieniet return policy. Give 'em a call. They are in Riverside CA and have a web site as well.

WTF, you give us an unsolicited review of the product and don't want to take a photo for your fellow Forum Members,
I've got a Yellow Vert also, and just wanted to see what it looked like on the car. And you give us some bullsh!t about advertising for the company, are you serious or just lazy to snap a few photo, either way my friend not very cool of you.

Good review but I think I'll pass. I like the top down and since I drove bikes for 30 + years being behind a windshield is a lot more protection than I am used to. And there's a lot less wind noise than a bike has.

I wonder how much free info you have gotten from other forum members Rickko AFTER they went thru the cost and time to make the alteration and POST the photos.

Looks, performance, and service were all as he described.
The only thing I would add is that if you are a taller driver (I'm 6'3") and require the seat to be all the way back and the back reclined fully, your seat release **** will ride against the Vette Net (scratches??) At highway speeds I actually felt my seat back move when the Vette Net would buffet. Not bad, but wanted to get his out there. Will try and get pics posted by tomorrow for you guys to look at..
