Default Car comparisons

I have a general question for the forum....

Why are some car comparison questions kept here in the General C5 forum, while others are swiftly moved to the seldom visited Off Topic - Other Car forum?

I am seriously considering purchasing my first C5, but am doing my due dilligence and looking at many options. I would like to know the opinions of the knowledgable and experienced folks here (although I know they have a certain bias for the C5).

I recently posted a question comparing a C5 to the 2005 Mustang GT Convertible. This is a 300 HP car that would cost about the same as a used C5. Clearly there are differences, pluses and minuses on both sides.

When I posted the question it was moved immediately, and the responses stopped. Yet there is a thread comparing the C5 to an Infiniti G35 that is enjoying a lot of discussion here today. Seems to me the Mustang GT is more closely related to the C5 than the G35, and could be discussed here as well.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome. There are many subjective readers here. You can not apply logic to all equally. Some only live to post sarcastic replys. Deep down we all respect anyone that is doing there homework. The new Mustang is a nice car for the money and it has a back seat for those who need more room. It will, however, never be a Vette. Its that old apples and oranges thing. Do your home work and get whats right for you.

Many times I think its how the thread is titled and what some of the immediate responses are. I remember your post and to me, moving it to OT was correct. A discussion concerning comparing two vehicles, even if one is a C5 should be an OT. I also remember the post with the G35 discussion, however in that post the member was writing about the advisability of the C5 as a DD and (I could be wrong, I didn't look at all the individual responses, the conversation really focused on that topic....not the G35.) Thats just my .02 cents....not right or wrong...just my take.

Usually the mod that moves it will post that he's moving it, and you would PM him just like you would me! If I didn't know with mod moved it I'd PM Grumpy as he is the most active and responsive Moderator!

If you look at the very bottom of the first page of C5 General, you'll see that the three moderators assigned to this forum are Grumpy, cor99vette and Mean Green. I haven't seen Mean Green around here in months, leaving only the other two.

If you PM either one of them, I am very sure that both would respond and explain their rationale.

In my opinion - if you are truly making a comparision and drawing a comparison to a C5, then the topic is C5 related and it will stay. If you post the same questions, but ask what the members think of the new Mustang, that topic does not pertain to C5's and it will get moved. It's really a matter of semantics, and how things are phrased.

C5 General is supposed to be about topics related to C5's. If it doesn't relate, it will get moved or locked.

Try the PM route, and see what they say.

Thanks for the words. I will PM mod, and try to word more carefully.

My title was C5 vs 2005 Mustang GT. It is still in the Off Topic - other car forum.

I welcome all comments on the topic. I am interested in a DD and am still a bit torn on which way to go.

The Mustang is a fine car if you want good performance at a very good price. But, the package is just not up to that of the C5. The Stang would have a full factory warranty, but check insurance rates too. I think you will find that the C5 is cheaper to insure. Depending on what year C5 you are looking at, it may still have a warranty left or you may be able to get a good aftermarket one.
