Default New Tires Rule!!!!!

I got my Michelin Pilot Sport a/s tires mounted today. This car drives like its on rails. What a difference. These tires are wonderful. If you have been agonizing over which tires to get for your vette, these are really great. Road Noise is way down. Really its the best ride I have been in in a long time!!!!! As for mileage that will remain to be seen, but I have had very good luck with Michelin tires in the past. These are expensive, but highly recommended!

I totally agree. I had my Pilot Sport A/S ZPs installed in February and am extremely pleased with them over the GYs. I highly recommend them

My new tires are just plain Pilot Sport as. They are not zero pressure. I thought the ride of my car could be a lot better and when I put these new tires on it this car came to life. I mean there is a world of difference. I like the convenience of run flats, but for a great ride these tires are amazing. If I have a problem, I have a small repair kit in the back of the car, just small air pump, tire patch if absolutely necessary, and a few tools like pliers and stuff to seal a puncture. I have never been stuck with a flat tire and I know it could happen any time, but so far so good. I've been driving for 32 years. If I have a bigger problem, flat bed time. Its covered in my insurance.

My biggest complaint with the Goodyear runflats was the darting effect across the road with them when I would change lanes. The stiff outer walls of the tires made it hard to handle if I ever got near the edge of the road or changed lanes where there was a camber in the road. In my opinion the darting effect of the tires makes them dangerous. Even knowing the tire would try to grab the wheel my car would really jump around. The ridge in the road would fit in between the sidewalls and pull like crazy! These new tires simply do not do that. Also my Goodyears were just plain loud. They made it hard to talk while the car was moving at freeway speeds.

You are going to find this hard to believe, but this car drives like its sitting still. No vibration, no pulling, just a very smooth ride. When I turn the wheel, it responds like it should, not like riding in a go cart.

Oh Yes!!! The jacking pucks from Elite Engineering worked great. I asked if they had pucks to jack the car. No!! I presented them and asked they make sure and use them. The installers did a great job on the tires. No hits, no scrapes, no excuses. The wheels look like they have never been touched. This time I was very lucky!!!

I agree about the GY EMTs. Loud, uncomfortable ride and they tend to hop over rough roads and freeway expansion joints. These days, many roads in my area are bad.
Does anyone have experience with both the Pilot Sport AS and AS ZP? How much do I give up in performance, noise and ride if I go with the ZP vs. non ZP? The Tire Rack is not clear on thispoint. I think either would be better than the EMTs.

I have brand new Michelin Pilot ZP's on my '98 and they are the great! No problems as previously reported with the Goodyears...

Default New Tires Rule!!!!!

I am running flats now, and will change in the future. I am wondering, do you disable the sensors on the wheels? What else do you have to do??

Thanks

I suggest that you buy new wheels (bigger) and tires when you switch to real tires and get new TPS. This way you always have a spare tire at home if you ever need one when tooling around town. Do not drive around without TPS when using non-runflats as you NEED to know when you are losing air.

You don't do anything except put the new tires, regular non runflat tires, on. The sensors work just like usual. I am running my TPS until they fail. Then I will either replace them or repair them by replacing the battery. I was interested in how to service them. I think I can do it or if not there is a place that services them on the web.

New sensors are supposed to be really expensive. I have been asking questions on the forum for about the last month to get information on the sensors. Search the forum and you can find threads on sensor replacement. I can tell you it will be a lot easier replacing the batteries with non runflat tires on. The sidewalls of the runflats are much thicker rubber sometimes 8 times thicker than non runflat tires.

I will agree with EMDExpress on this. You need the sensors with nonrunflat tires. If the sensors fail they flash on the DIC. This can be overcome by resetting the DIC. This is not great, but it does not appear to affect anything until you get the sensors fixed or replaced.

Everything will work the same except the car will handle like a dream! Thanks forum another catastrophe avoided. This forum saves me tons of money.

non-runflats:
lighter

cost less
less noise
