Default Paint Protector During Fueling

Has anyone used the small rubber fold-out protector that protects the body paint area around the fuel filler door during fueling? These are in the popular vette catalogs. Recommended or no?

I've only put gas in my new C5 once and it seems like bumping the body with the gas nozzle may be a problem.

I have one and considering how inexpensive they are, you should get one! It is cheap insurance against scratches and gas running down your paint!

I had one on my C4 because the hose and nozzle actually rested on the back of the car. I did not install one on my C5 because this was not an issue. I am careful when fueling and have not had a problem. There is not much room in the gas cap compartment in the C5 to fold one up.

I agree with both of the earlier posts. I have 1 and it wasn't expensive. However, I don't drive my car much so I don't fill it up much and I'm always careful with it. If you're making an order you could add it on, but I wouldn't order just this item which combined with shipping wouldn't be worth it.

That's what I just did. Just add it on!

I had one of these on my '02 vert, and there was plenty of room to store it inside there.

I think its a great idea considering the damage a gas pump nozzle can do..... After seeing the shape of the protector i had a peice of rubber (same as an old heavy duty tire tube) from my koi pond and cut it sort of like a figure "8". the top was a donut that stretched and fit snuggly around the gas cap area, drapes down about 8 inches when filling. Tucks in easily. Cheap mod for paint protection. Had a gas guy fill me up" he looked at it as iff to say "What the F++k" but he got the idea and smiled

I just bought one last week but haven't put it on the car yet. Oregon is still a no self-service gas state and I'm wondering how the gas station attendants will react to my new little gizmo.

I also buy gas in Washington, which is self service, and I'm not real good at pumping it myself so it's more a protection from me than it is from the gas station attendants.

Bless them all.

I've got one on mine. To me, it was worth the small cost as it protects against any unfortunate accident with the nozzle.

I bought one of the larger more rectangular ones with a Corvette logo on it. It folds just fine into the filler compartment but ... I'm having a hard time keeping the damn thing on the filler neck. It just has a hole in it that slips over the filler neck but it doesn't really seem to grab anywhere and keeps falling off. I fill up in NJ where there is no self-service and I feel dopey every time I have to get out of the car to reposition the bib so it doesn't fall off. I think it's a good idea but wish it connected better.

I had one and eventually took it off because it traps and holds a lot of water when you wash the car. I thought it was more trouble than it was worth.

At the price of gas, who the hell would let it drip anyway.
My tree hugging neighbor told me to park it and start riding my 10 speed.
It's funny because when we compared notes, I get better milage than her Camray.
Wonder if she wants to borrow my 15 speed.
