Default High Mileage C5 Concerns

I just bought a 98 with 90k on it and it has a 6spd. The car runs, and drives, and looks new! I am assuming mostly highway miles! I am wondering what is the life span of most of the mechanicals of these C5's??? I have owned around 25 vettes, and I really like this car! I like my 67 as well, it is just different!

I did just get a left tire flat warning, and the tire is full of air at 36psi! Can I assume the the sensor battery is dead?? Can any shop fix this??

Thanks for all the help!!

you've had over 25 vetts? This is your first C5? It should last like any GM product if it was well taken care off - for what that's worth

You probably got the tire warning because it has too much air in it. Drop it to 30 psi cold, or close, and it'll probably go away.

no .. you have a different message for high psi .. if you've got a flat tire message and it's at 36 psi (which is way too high btw) .. then the sensor is dead .. i'm not sure but i believe you have to purchase a new unit.

congrats on the ride.

I'm over 160K with no major problems. This car has not been babied but it has been taken care of. Its been through at least two clutches but overall hasnt given any major problems.

Since vettes begin rattling and falling apart after 40K miles (and with the C5 much sooner than that!) I wouldnt touch a 90K mile vette with a 12 ft poll. But thats just me

If it has been well taken care of (which it sounds like it has) and you continue the good maintenance, it should go for a long time.

Purchased my 99 Red mm6 coupe new in August 98. Now have 62,000 miles and drives and handles like the day I drove it out of the dealership. It is driven like a Corvette is designed and engineered to be driven and extremely well kept in all matters. It is my 5th new Corvette since 1964, and the best one yet. A few minor items fixed under warranty but nothing serious. A new set of Michelin's Pilot Sport A/S Z/P at 42,000 miles, Optima battery and Silver Star Hi and low beams. These are the 3 items that Chevrolet cheapened up on and made a major mistake by using inferior O.E.M. equipment to satisfy the Genaral's cost cutting methods. A great car by all measuring efforts I am privy to. Best of Luck with your new ride. Enjoy the car to it's fullest. Godspeed ! !

Vettes are no different than any other car. maintenance is absolutely key. A lot of people skimp on oil (not using Mobil 1 or at least a differnt fulkl synthetic), but why? You dropped anywhere from 15-25K for a car so don't worry about an extra $50 a year for routine oil AND filter. Simpe things like allowing the engine to warm up for a minute helps save wear and tear.

Even Honda's and Toyotas fall apart if there not taken care of. Speaking of perceived durability, my wife has a 2000 Acura TL with 68k miles and the transmission needed to be replaced. We bought it new and my wife drives as mild as can be yet the balloyhooed reputation for Acura (nee Honda) would have cost me $3000 if I didn't have an extended warranty.

Vettes are complex and small things might need tending to, however the mechaincal are solid and will last at least to 200k with good upkeep.

Thanks for all the help!!

Be Careful......the owner before you could have changed tires or rims and switched the sensors. Check the pressure of all your tires. Just cause it reads left tire flat it could be your right tire. Good luck and enjoy the car.
