Anybody have any info on the K&N Gen. II Intake Kit (FIPK)

Better/worse/same as compared to the Blackwing?

Thanks.

All reports say the bottom breathers are best - after that the Blackwing and Halltech Stinger are tied for first place in terms of airflow, all other after that. Some sources claim 10hp more than K&N - do not know how true that claim is.

What the hell, I'll jump in...

Measurable gains are not realized through intake alone. The GM programming negates any potential gains. Without custom tuning (average cost $500) you won't change your dyno numbers.

That said, I did (see sig and the rwhp report from DTE). By my math, that's bulking out at 413 hp at the crank using 18% parasitic drivetrain loss. (413-((413 x 0.18) = 339rwhp).

Bottom line, intake alone will only change the way YOU think about the car. But let's face it, it's a MOD and a great beginning

The K&N FIPK is a very good system. Like the Halltech Stinger-R, it includes a large filter, larger-than-stock airbridge, and smooth throttlebody coupler. The K&N runs $350, while the Hallteck, $240. The difference is 2-fold: The K&N features carbon fiber filter caps and its instructions show you how to create a flap in the lower radiator cover. Essencially, they take the ultra-conservative direction to obtaining cold air. You end up with a an opening that starts out at nothing and ends with less than an inch of space at the top of the radiator cover....not bad, but not nearly as open as the cutout and scoop-directed path in my cold air mod for the Halltech Stinger and Blackwing intakes. The polycarbonate "scoop" in my procedure has been tested at 175 MPH road speeds, so it is very robust. The cost for the CAI mod? About $40 in materials that you can purchase very easily. The mod procedure can be downloaded at http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_c5_corner.htm
