Default Hoodliner cleaning

I'm doing some under-the-hood detailing. I thought I'd pressure wash the hoodliner. Does anyone else out there have any tips that would help?

Paula told me that you should lightly spray it with oven paint!

If you pressure wash it, you will tear it up. Pressure washers are actually pretty dangerous tools on a car.

I just use a little soap in some warm water and gently scrub it. Then rinse lightly with water that isn't under pressure.

Here is what I did yesterday. Take a damp towel and wipe it gently.
Get a can of flat black spray paint, and paint the whole thing. It will take 3 coats.
Go to a hobby store and get some paint markers and paint the logo.
It took me about 3 hours, and it was well worth it.

Good luck.

just use an automatic carwash, just leave the hood open when u go through and go through backwards so it sprays the backside of the hood.

actually, when i clean my DIY painted hoodliner i usually just blow it off with an airhose (dont get too close to it tho as u might cause the fibers to seperate) and if it has something stubborn on it just use a damp rag and gently wipe it.

Would it be better to take it off the car to paint it?, and are those plastic disc holders reuseable once you pull them out?

Ive done alot of these hoodliners for my cars and friends. I start with Krylon Satin black paint(not dull finish when dry)
Cheap tool for removing pins is the tool used for removing door handles and window cranks(dating myself) on gm cars --Pep boys about 3.50
These liners look good when painted-I always get positive comments.

[QUOTE=RatedX]Would it be better to take it off the car to paint it?, and are those plastic disc holders reuseable once you pull them out?[/QUOTbefore you take the plastic retainers out put a sheet across your engine compartment in case you drop one the cloth will catch it and it will not get lost in the engine. In fact i just painted my plastic retainers red to match the logo paula did for me on my hoodliner.

Definitely would not power wash the hoodliner. If anything, take a soft brush and gently brush the dust off then use a damp cloth to wipe it down.

Does any of the vendors produce a hoodliner that is durable?
Saw one installed in an C4 that appeared to be black faux leather that was rolled and pleated with the LOGO in the center.
Perhaps it was custom made, but it really looked great.

Hoodliner Cleaning:

FIRST try this: Get rag, wet it with water, wring it out to damp.. Then BLOT the liner. Do not rub!!!

If that does not give you the results you want:

Buy: Charcoal Grill, High temp Flat Black Paint
1. Take off liner
2. Stand it up
3. Cover up logo if painted with newspaper using masking tape
4. Stand back about 14"
5. Just MIST the liner..a fine mist will bring it back out
6. Do not soak liner, just mist..
7. Never RUB a spot, cause it will fuzz up real pretty like
8. If you have a bad spot, spray some of the high temp spray in the cap, get a brush and just DAB the spot with the paint

Tool: It is called a "Door Plug Puller", Autozone for $6.00. Replacement pugs at Autozone 2 for $2.99. You can use these plugs over and over , until they just won't stay in any more...

Good Luck!

A bar-B-que fork works really well to take out the plastic retainers.
