I've read that the K&N kit can damage the Blackwing. Here is a snip from the PFYC.com website on the Blackwing cleaning kit."Unlike other filters, Donaldson's filters have a synthetic material that requires a special cleaning kit. Why take a chance with household cleaners when this cleaning kit is inexpensive and easy to use?" and from K&N's website on their cleaning kit...
"Use only K&N air filter cleaner.
NO gasoline cleaning.
NO steam cleaning.
NO caustic cleaning solution.
NO strong detergents.
NO high pressure car wash.
NO parts cleaning solvents.
Any of these NO's can cause harm to the gauze filter media, plus shrink and harden the rubber end caps."
The fact that Blackwing mentions synthetic and the K&N mentions gauze is enough of a concern that I wouldn't try interchanging cleaning kits. Maybe overkill on my part, but why risk it. The cleaning kit is less than $20 bucks at most Corvette retailers.
The Blackwing should be good for 50,000 miles or until the indicator pops up. I didn't buy a kit when I installed my Blackwing but will when the time comes.
