About this C6 versus C5 business -- I don't remember this kind of anomosity on this Forum between the C4 and C5 crowd when the C5 first came out.

I think there was a certain amount of animosity - but the difference was the C5 crowd was on the receiving end. But as a loyal C5 owner, it really troubles me to see the "new breed" of C6 owners and how a small percentage of them behave, which in my opinion causes some of the animosity.

Just this past Saturday - a guy with a new C6 convertible in Black showed up on Corvette row at the local show and shine. Naturally, everyone walked over to look at the car (mostly C5 and C4 folks), and everybody was very complimentary of the car. (I thought it looked sharp in black - Z51 with an Ebony interior).

Everything was cool until I asked the guy how he likes it - his response was that the C6 was a much better car than the C5. I said - "Really, in what way?" He responded that it was better in every way. So then I asked - "Did you own a C5 before?" He said no - this is his 1st Vette.

I got a little defensive and said -"Then you don't know what the heck you're talking about, since you have nothing to compare it to..."

He said that the dealer told him how the C6 was a vast improvement of the C5 - and that's where I think a lot of this comes from.

Many of these guys who are buying C6's are first time Vette owners, and are buying them because they have to have the latest and greatest new toy on the block. They care nothing about the 52 years of heritage (and probably know nothing about it), and will only have the car until something newer comes along.

I will freely admit that this is not everyone - far from it. This is a very small percentage of the owners and they have caused all of this strife. There are a large number of guys who have moved up to the new generation and have had Vettes before. These guys understand the geneology of new generation Vettes and that the new Vette still has certain stying themes that go all the way back to the C1....like the waterfall on the convertible, the twin sets of taillights, the coves on the side, etc.

It's too bad this stuff happens, but in a year or so - the pretenders will be gone, leaving the enthusiasts to enjoy The Only Sportscar That Matters. (at least I hope so! )

Actually, there was no CorvetteForum when the C5 replace the C4.

But, that was my point -- the new "crowd" seems to be a lot less "Corvette Brotherhood" friendly than the old guys. I'll "wave down" to anyone -- C2, C3, C4, even a, heaven's to Merkatroid, a C6."

Heck, I even waved to a 1996 Impala SS the other day.

The new C6 guys just seem to be such poseurs.
