Default HELP PLEASE - headlight problem

I've got a problem with my passenger headlight continuing to run for 7 seconds or so after I shut it off.
I just replaced this headlight assembly with a good used one from Gene at Karshop after a little red-light boo boo (I found out a C5 won't fit underneath a full-sized Silverado's bumper, much to my chagrin), and it worked fine immediately after installation.
I had to drive to Dallas Saturday night, and, upon arriving at the hotel, I turned off the lights and went inside to pay for the room. After restarting the car, I realized the light did not come up. It was late, I was road weary, so I left it for Sunday morning.
I checked the light Sunday while my GF turned the switch on & off. The connectors were fine, and I could see the light moving a tiny bit when switched on. Tried everything I could think of....then reverted to giving it a gentle beating with the palm of my hand. She flipped the switch......the light raised triumphantly, shining it's glorious yellow light for all the world to see......angels sang, ...blah, blah, blah.
Then she turned the switch to 'off', the light went down, .....and continued to grind for 6-8 seconds, while I cringed in horror. Tried it repeatedly....but to no avail. It is still grinding it's little guts out every time I shut it down.
Any ideas from the peanut gallery??

Jerry

Typically a shorted "actuator." About $350 if GM replaces.

All the best.

Hmm, it sounds more to me like the broken gear syndrome. You can get brass replacements from the catalog houses or a couple of forum vendors. They are prone to wearing.

sounds just like my 2000 did - and with no argument with a Silverado.
Dealer happily replaced the actuator - for $500 - and of course out of warranty - ( but just 27000 miles on odometer)
