I am having a problem recently with my gas gage......
It only goes up to the mark right before the Fill Line. Its the 90% or so hash mark on the meter.
Also recently driving down to Atlantic City this past weekend, the gas gage went batty a few times and went to Zero, even though it had half tank plus at times. This happened a few times on the road trip but since I have returned to CT the gage has not gone to Zero !!
Chevron Techron ! Had similar problem and the wise folks here pointed in the right direction .
I have the problem every time I go off Techron. About the third or fourth tank it starts screwing up again. I can get along w/o Chevron for a tank or maybe two but I run it all the time if available.
It seems like road trip gas is the worst gas. Techron is a good idea. I buy mine from CostCo by the box, but I only use it every few months, and I haven't had a problem in the past two years. If you really want to understand the fuel system, and why you're having problems, check out the link to the fuel thread in the C5 General Sticky, otherwise just stick to gas stations you've learned to trust and occasionally run a bottle of Techron thru your tank. FWIW, the new Corvette's and Tahoe's, and probable many other GM vehicles, also have this problem.

Sounds like you need to run some Chevron Techron through the tank and see if that frees up the gauge. If that doesn't do the trick, may be a problem with the sending units. On my '99, the dealer had to replace both sending units before my gas guage would work right.
I had the gas gauge problem when I used Chevron gas. I switched to Mobil and the problem disappeared. Techron may be a nice product but I don't think it's a cure all. Good luck.
Here is quote from Ken Fitchner's 4/9/2005 newsletter....
"11) 2002 thru 2005 Erratic Fuel Reading – NEW 3/25/05
2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 Chevrolet Corvette and 2004-2005 Cadillac XLR (Y-Body) Fuel Gauge is Erratic

General Motors is in the process of redesigning the fuel tank sending units in both of the subject vehicles. A new part number has been released but it is not yet in stock. Some dealers have attempted to order the new parts 88967315 or 7316 and they have been told that the parts are not yet available. The new parts have an improved ink coating which will provide improved resistance to fuel contamination and correct fuel sender over travel which is the primary cause for the fuel gauge being erratic. Fuel Modules should not be replaced for complaints of erratic fuel gauge. The fuel sender card is the only part required.
Until the new fuel sender cards are available, the 2004 card is available and can be used. Part number 10310028 left side and 10310103 for the right side will operate in all 2002 through 2005 applications. However it does not have the improved ink path. In cases where a customer insists on a replacement part, the 2004 part can be used although it is the same part that is currently in their car. Availability is expected by the end of April. A bulletin will be released with correct part numbers as soon as the parts become available."
