Hi, new to the forum, I have been lingering around here for a few weeks, have a Mitsu 3000gt vr4 (AWD,twinturbo) and I am gonna sell her and get 97-99 vette coupe or frc. I need to know which models have the molding strip coming from the front door vent and which ones don't. In the c5 for sale section, fastcop has a white one w/ chrome ysk rims and he has no body molding stripe (one's with stripe look like the red vert on top of this page on the forum title). I like the no-strip look. Please let me know which year car is least problematic (piston-slap, oil consumption, or any other MAJOR problems. I can handle rocking seats and funky fuel gauge and I will get my cloumn lock checked out first thing.
Thank you, Corvette Forum Members, I have been reading your posts for two or three weeks and this is a very pleasant forum. I like all the good feelings and happiness around here. You guys should go check out 3si.org (3000gt and dodge stealth forum). It's so much work to have a car like mine and I can't wait to get a trouble-free ride like the vette (my best friend has a '99 black/tan w/ 150k on her and she's never had any problems except for column-lock!).

The body side moldings are an option on the C5 - some came with it, some didn't. If you find the car you want and it happens to have the BSM on it, you can remove it.
thanks. I really like the look without the extra strip. I can't wait to get my car back from the shop so I can sell it and join the ranks of the wonderful world of corvette's. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.
Welcome Hard Driver! I agree with you on your taste regarding the BSM. That is the great thing about your new car. You can mod it to suit yourself. Some will like it and some will not care so much. Be true to your own tastes and you will enjoy the car.
Since you've had a lot of BSM responses, the other parts of your question were about piston slap and oil consumption. For piston slap info check out pistonslap.com, and as far as oil consumption it seemed to be some of the 01s that had the most trouble in that area.
Hey, know that you mention it, i like corvette's w/ or w/o bsm too. I really don't care about the stripe as much as I do finding a good one. the best part about that is that they all seem pretty damn good. Hell, like I said, my buddy's got a 99 w 150k! and she's never been to the shop but for column lock. I just have to get the vr4 back and sell her. Engine is being rebuilt (spun bearing) but I think a N/A v8 is for me. Twin-turbo v6 is a lot of work to be as fast as ls1. Corvette is the best ls1 and c5 is the best corvette, IMHO.
Once again, thanks to all who have replied here. My first reply to my first post on ls1.com was two smilies that weren't smiling . Plus, it's not just a powerplant (corvette), it's a lifestyle (of maintenance-free waves from hot chicks )
