02 and up don't have the screen, many people with 01 have taken them off, but I'm not sure if it benefits an 01. The hood seal will keep rain water, etc., from dripping on the exposed filter.
I was told Z06's don't have MAF screens. And if you add an intake, that you should add a screen along with a hood seal. Does this sound right?
2002-2004 Z06s have a screenless MAF. I think the hood seal is a good idea with any aftermarket exposed filter. Your 2002 Z will probably be okay if you add an after market intake, without using a screened MAF. Some 2003 and 2004 Z06s will throw codes and set a check engine light. I installed the Halltech Stinger on my 2004 Z and got a check engine light and codes 0171 and 0174. Lots of folks with 2004 Zs had the same problem, possibly because of revised factory tuning. A screened MAF from a 2001 Z eliminated my problem completely. After market tuning can also eliminate this problem. My recommendation is to install the intake with the stock MAF and see how it runs. Odds are it will be fine.
Hood seal is worth it just to keep a cleaner engine bay. If the car came without a screen, then don't sweat it. Changing it makes tuning a bit of a bear.
I have an 02 Z and have had the stinger on for almost 4500 miles with no codes at all, but it hasn't been to the track with it on yet.
The MAF was screenless on mine.
I would add the hood seal too, after washing it, I saw quite a bit of water made it into the engine bay without it.

Awesome! Thanks for all the advice. I should be getting it in about a week or so.
