Hey guys,
I'm still pretty new to my corvette. I've driven it about 3k miles now and still really love it and take very good care of it. My reason for posting is to find out how hard you guys are driving your vettes in comparison to me. I feel like I'm going to break something really. I floor it maybe once or twice a week and when I do its only to about 60 or so shifting at 5k rpm. Otherwise, driving normally I shift at just over 2k rpm and acheive around 22ish mpg average. You know you read some of the GM bulletins that can scare you for example: "pistons needing replacement due to bla bla bla" and "Camshaft bolts loosening up blablabla".. How to the rest of you treat your vettes? I probably sound obsessive compulsive here but really, there is a right and wrong way to treat a car I think.
Let your hair down. These cars are meant to be enjoy and have fun in!
They're built for it! Fun = some Spirited Driving in my book! Crank her up
to 4 or 5 grand and feel the thrill!
I don't go nuts, but go to 5K a few times on every drive. I don't redline it very often - i'd say maybe once a month i'd wind her up all the way to the redline through first/second.
I agree with the above posts. You just have to drive it to enjoy it. This is a performance sports car and it can take abuse. You just have to realize as with any piece of machinery that the harder you push it the more parts you are going to have to eventually replace. However, from your posts it seems like you are treating yours quite nicely. I love mine as well and dont really take it to its limits very often. But, with all that hp, you dont need to prove yourself to anyone. have fun with your vette!!!
I am an acceleration freak, and I love to make pulls in third in the Z06, and I run around in "3" in the A4 coupe.
I tend to run the Z a little harder than the coupe.
In real terms, engines and tranny's and clutches etc can be replaced relatively cheaply when compard to other cars in the class of performance, so I say...."have a good time all the time!"

You'll get over that worrying about breaking something after awhile, I did, and now I enjoy the heck out of it. Just be responsible and pick your spots to let her rip, be safe and have fun. If something breaks just get it fixed.
Despite a few tech bullitens that really relate to a few cars with oil consumtion issues - these cars are WELL BUILT. The problems are maily annoyances not show stopping disasters. I have found my car to be VERY reliable and a heck of a lot of fun - I drive it like I want to and simply do the regular maint on it - ok I wax it a little obsessivly but what can ya do!
