Default Brake Pad Average Life

My '02 Z06 has 22,600 fairly easy miles, and the front brakes just starting squealing a little under easy braking, but not bad. What is the average mileage you guys are getting on front pads and rear pads??
Do you think I need to change them right away, or do you still have some pad left after they start squealing (the brake feel is still great)?

Also, alot of people here have been talking about the ceramic pads from GMpartsdirect.com. They sound pretty good, with alot less brake dust, and they're only about $50! What a deal.

If I bring in the ceramic pads, what do you think is a fair price for a shop to turn the rotors and install my pads?

Thanks for the help guys......

Change brake pads depends on your use. a little squeel is ok. If you have less then 50% pad remaining then it may not be a bad idea to change those pads. Change the brake fluid too. brake fluid is glycerine base will be come saturated with water ( 4% ) with in 18 months. This decreases stopping ablities up to 25%. I know the manual says every 30 K miles to do a brake fluid flush.

Ceramic pads are OK, Not great. Yes they do reduce dust, but also reduce stopping power and will take up to 5% longer to stop under emergancy situcations. So with old brake fluid and ceramic pads( to reduce dust) and you have an emergacny stopping situation. Not a situation that I would want to be in.

Stick with the stock ZO6 pads and fresh brake fluid.

Turning rotors is not worth the time or money. It costs less to buy new rotors then to turn old ones. Safer too.
