Default Lifting up center console

To get in to the area around the shifter, is the center console piece just snapped down in place or are there screws holding it down? (I'm going in there tomorrow to put some dynamat in to quiet down the Hurst noise.)

Thanks.....

There is two parts...the console where the armrest is, and the part where the shifter is. The arm rest is held down by 4 bolts, I think 10mm. The center piece which has the traction control button needs to be popped out of place. Small flat-head screwdriver will do the trick. You need a deep socket for the bolts, but you'll see them under there and at the rear of the armrest when you open it. Then move that all out of the way.

Next you need to pull that little cover near the ignition, and under there there is a 10 torx screw. There is also another one where the ashtray is. Then get the boot off the console (you don't need to take off the shifter) and you're all set to take it out.

Easily done, not more than 10 minutes.

Not sure how installing dynamat is going to reduce the noise from your shifter. The noise is coupled up the metal shaft. You can get road noise and exhaust fumes if the OEM rubber boot wasn't re-installed around the shifter properly.
