Default Turned down a c6 for a c5....

Long time lurker, first post.....

Went shopping the other day, got rid of my 02. Wanted someting newer. Came down to an 04 White coupe, or an 05 . Took both for a drive...( I've purposely waited awhile in order to let the c6 grow on me).

Bought the 04. Why? Many reasons...... This is my third vette( 98,02,04), and simply the c5 is a better feeling car. Not as refined, but more a sportscar. Longer lines, more flowing. The c6 is growing on me, and it did have some serious get up, but it seems too choppy and "square". It seems the designers got to the rear end and stopped working.

The first thing that hit me driving the c6 was how busy the interior is. Buttons aside, there is just too much extra in the interior. Sports cars are supposed to be simple. Also, there is not as much side to side room. I know they took an inch off the width, but it feels alot narrower. That, and the hood view is alot more crowded with the front flaring of the tire wells. The silver brushed parts need to go.

It is a nice ride, and I'll probably get one in a couple of years, but in sitting both side by side, I went with the c5. It is just more of what a sportscar should look like IMHO.( Disclaimer- all c6 owners don't get upset. I do like the new vette, it just needs to be toned down a bit.)

PS Anyone in Jacksonville, Fl know how to lower a vette?

Yea, I test drove a C6 at Kerbecks awhile back. It was the "pink one" you know the one they moded for Vicki Kerbeck. It was ok, the C6 has it's ups and downs. Too much useless electronics. But when I looked at my C5 sitting next to a C6, there's no comparison.

I liked the c6, it just doesn't feel like a vette. Maybe too refined or comfy, who knows.

Anyone in Jax who would like to help, I will buy all the beer or Hooters wings it will take... I don't trust myself to do this job- mechanics ain't my thing........

I looked at the C6 also and determined that I liked the C5 better.

So, I bought a new C5 convertible, white with Torch Red inside.

I am most happy.

At the track yesterday there were only 3 C5 Vettes. Out of over 300 street cars. There was even a Z8 Bimmer there. There were no C6s.

I had plenty of time to look at plenty of cars and the C5, at least in my mind is a classic design for the ages.

The C6 is a nice car and I would be happy with either a C5 or a C6. But gosh, I love the sleek styling and curves of the C5 more than any other car I have ever seen.

If I had the money to buy a c6 right this minute, I would save it for more mods on my c5. In my opinion the c5 just looks BETTER! I think GM jumped into the c6 too fast, just to be building something new and differant.

I agree, I am sure that technically speaking the c6 is better, but it sure does not look better. And I for one hate the electronics and busy interiors. That alone would stop me.

Welcome. Really either way you go your would have been a winner, but not a thing wrong with sticking with a C5. They are great cars.

The C6 does not take my breath away, I thought it would... The C5 is a better looking Vette, thats why I went looking for a 04/vert.

Damn, I must be the oddball (at least in this thread).

I have two C5's (see pics). Both are modded to excess. I love these cars

I'll be acquiring the C6 - in fact two of them (one Lingenfelter Signature Edition and either a second LPE or the Z06).

At a minimum, the C6 LPE(s) will be Verts - they just look right (other than the front view) vs the coupe.

I do like the options that are available with the C6 - electronics and all. On the other hand, the 1st year application of these would appear (from posts and feedback) to be lacking in reliability. So, I'll wait for at least 1, and possibly 2 years before making these purchases.

Oh, I'll keep both my C5's - they are just right I adhore each of them, and they will remain in the stable

If I saw the C6 and C5 sitting side by side and I knew nothing about Corvettes and had never had seen either one of them before I'd think the C5 is the updated model over the C6!
