Default Memory problem???

I'm new to the C5 and have been experiencing a problem that probably has more to do with my memory than the car's. About half or more of the time when I get into my 2000 convertible (sorry don't know all the initials you folks use) I have to push the memory button or the seat/steering wheel doesn't move. The rest of the time it moves when I insert the key. Am I doing or not doing the right/wrong thing? Thanks

The problem is that you did not use the FOB before entering the car. When the memory works is probably when your car is locked and you have to use the FOB to get in. When the car is unlock and you enter the car the memory doesn't work since the computer doesn't know which memory setting to use. So whenever you are about to get into the car always use your FOB and your memory option should work, unless there are other problems

Thank you very much. I suspect you are correct in your assessment. I thought it worked by recognizing the key that was inserted rather than the FOB that was used. I'll give it a try.

Default Close the door

The door must be closed also. If the door is open the seat will not move when the key is inserted. If you put the key in and close the door the seat won't work. This is a safety item.

I would also try moving the seat full rear,, wait 10 sec. then move full forward and wait 10 secs,, then move back to normal position. My MB had memory seats also and when it loses it's mind (usually at the car wash where they play with the buttons ) I have to reindex the seat.

I have had many problems with the memory seats on the C5 and the factory team had to help. Problem was with my wiring harness and all the dealer would do is swap parts and never look at the (Plugs )

Have fun.. 99 Nassau Blue

100% CORRECT

Set your seat the way you want it. (configure options, if you want, to easy entry or something like that - the seat goes all the way back when you take out the key)

Once set properly, get in, close the door and insert key. The seat moves to it correct position every time.

prior to entering your car, press the unlock feature on your fob and then the memory feature will be activated when you insert your key.

Default Depress Unlock button TWICE to engage memory option

I didn't see anyone else say this in their posts, so if I'm duplicating I'm sorry. I am nearly certain that the key fob must be pressed TWICE prior to entering the car in order to engage the automatic memory option. If you press it once, you will have to manually press the memory button in the car. That is probably why the problem seems intermittant. You are probably inadvertantly pressing the button 2X some of the time but 1X the rest of the time.

I wish you luck, I have two key fobs, one works all the time while the other fob just can't keep it together
