Question to anyone: I'm about ready to paint my hoodliner. One thing I have planned to do is to do the entire liner in flat black enalmel paint first. My wife, who is a decorator and artist questioned if the paint would chip off when bent or from heat.
I don't know if the beautiful work Paula does starts with a base coat but I'm very interested to know about durability. I know it won't get bent around much but it will be very hot (this is Texas!) and would hate for the paint to start flaking, or start looking crappy over time.

Any advice anyone?
Don't know for sure but I've heard that some people put a coat of super-glue down first and let it dry.

When I did my latest, I put down 5 layers of flat black, 5 of c the background color and then 3 of clear coat. put my design on the liner and cleared it again. no chips as the paint gets absorbed by the liner
I think my question must not be worded very well. Sorry!
What I'm asking is if the base coat is durable. Over time, through installation and heat cyclings (hot, then cold, then hot, etc), does the base coat chip, crack, fade, etc?
Maybe another question is if the liner gets "hard" after 5 coats of paint or if it retains some of this compression ability, flexibility, etc. If you were to bend a corner of the liner, would the paint crack and break off?
Very funny....and how many tubes of superglue would that require? 400?
No, really. I have heard that. They were talking about doing the emblem. Hey, I didn't say I'D done it, I just heard someone else say that it works. Gimmie a break!
I am looking to just use black color, but I think the spray dyes that are used on carpets, etc. might be the best choice and i have been talking to EastWood and others about the options
I used 3 coats of krylon high temp flat black on the emblem portion only. You only need the flat black to seal the headliner so it doesn't absorb as much of the color coats.
