When I change my oil, I raise the rear higher than the front so it all drains out. I fill the filter with oil so it doesn't run dry very long. I then put in the remainder of 6.5 quarts ----- and with a complete 6.5 quarts (of Mobil-1), it's right at the 'add' mark at the bottom of the hashmarks on the dip stick. This is an '04 Z06. So, I use 7 quarts.
Yes the oil was at normal level before the run. The oil was about halfway on the hatch marks on the dip stick.
You race the car and don't at least make sure the oil is to the top of the marks? Oil starvation is your engine's worst nightmare.
If an extra quart is needed racing, how in the HHHH could it hurt driving normally?
Again, as others have already told you......higher revs from racing cause a great demand on your engine and can cause oil starvation. The extra oil for this use will keep enough oil in the pan to prevent this. But for normal driving that extra oil is to much causing oil foaming in the engine and main seal damage.
Remember some oil gets past the rings and is burned. Every engine burns a tiny bit of oil, this is normal. It is normal to have to add oil to an engine that is raced a lot. But excess oil consumption for street driving is not normal.
