Hey everyone, quick question. I've had my Vette now for the last few weeks and I was starting to think about my first oil change and what to use. Befor I traded in my Camaro for the Vette I used Quaker State and a Fram oil filter the whole time I had her. Never had any problems using those products but before I start throwing any old kind of oil and filter in the Vette I thought I would get some opinions. Obviously I know it'll be synthetic but what brand and weight of oil does most Vette owners use and brand of oil filter as well. Now on the Camaro I used 10W-30 oil and I read some of the threads here and it seems alot of Vette owners are using 5W-30. So which is better? I live in Texas so I would think the 5W-30 is kind of thin in this type of climate. Any way sorry for the long post but thanks to all those that read it and help out.
There is a thread somewhere to a good filter comparison analyisis. I read it last fall and was suprised at what the reports were on the different types of filters. I don't know what the thread is, but maybe another member can tell you so you can see what a difference there is in oil filters.
I also agree, Mobil has told me that 5W-30 provides faster lubrication at startup (no matter where you live) than 10W-30. This (5W-30) is the recommended viscosity by GM, not only because of its contribution to better fuel economy, but because it does provide great protection in all climates. Some members use 0W-30 Castrol European) and 0W-40 (Mobile 1), which are both very good oils to use in any climate. Now, the oils I mention are more than adequate for the average driver who may push his or her C5 to higher oil temps occasionally, but if your car is a track and/or ultra-high performance vehicle, other viscosity ranges may be preferable.
BTW, The K&N and Baldwin filters filter and flow extremely well. They are at the top of the heap when it comes to oil filters.
