Well i just bought a 99 FRC and this is the one other problem it has. It will lock and unlock itself sometimes and i am going nutz trying to figure it out. I found underneath the dash on the passenger side ther is four wires hanging that are tapped into a harness and im assuming it was for an aftermarket security system. So im going to take all the conections off re sodder the origanl wires back toghether and see what that does. Does any have any other ideas that could be, and also where is a good place to find wiring diagrams for the C5 ? Thanks
Your key fob has a slide switch on it. Slide it to "off".
That disables the auto lock/unlock function as you walk away from or approach where the car is parked.

It sounds like your passive lock/unlock is what's causing it.
Also in one of the pages on your Drivers Information Console (DIC).
I believe it is under "OPTIONS" There are some features that you can change. One is the passive function Turn it OFF.
I did not get a manual with it, so if anyone knows how to shut that darn thing off let me know. What exactly does the passive switch supposed to do on the fob ?
It's supposed to do exactly what you described. If the switch is on, the fob will actively seek the receiver on the car. When you approach the car it will automatically unlock the car for you. When you leave the car when the fob goes out of range, it will automatically lock the doors. The switch is just a slide switch on the bottom of the remote. You should be able to slide it to the off position.

Your key fob needs to be replaced. It is very common on the 99s. Mine has done it with both original fobs. Do a search on the forum and you will find a dozen threads with this problem.

I've had mine turned off for several years now. No problemo!
