Going to the track(road course) for my initial outing this week.I was planning to add extra 1/2 qt of oil and bring tire pressures up to 38 lbs(Toyo - T1-S).Comments please and/or any other suggestions to enhance the performance without damaging the car.
1. Add 1 quart of oil
2. Make sure bake pads are over 1/2 life
3. Bleed brakes and change stock fluid out for high-temp
4. Start with tires around 36-36 psi cold. They should be 38-40 hot for street tires.
5. Wrap tie-rod ends in high temp shielding (they'll melt internally)
6. I'd pick up a spare set of front rotors from NAPA just for insurance.
Thanks for input - not planning to run hard or long for initial outing just want to experience car in stock form as planning some mods shortly.Kind regards
long sleeves/pants, natural materials (jeans and cotton shirt are perfect)
lots of water, you will be dehydrated
bring a torque wrench if you have it and tire guage, check your lug nuts and tire pressure regularly
empty out your car completely, bring trash bag to store things in (in case it rains!)
cash for lunch at the track
helmet (SA2000 or better, full face is best)
listen to your instructor and try to get a ride in one of their cars
Never heard of the tie rod end internals melting. Is this from experience or is this a fact gleened from a reliable source?
Common knowledge in the auto-x/road racing forum. Over time they'll get soft. Also the outer rubber covers will melt. Mine had excessive play in them so I replaced them with VB&P HD ones. They're all metal, no plastic internals. I still cover the rubber boots in head tape.

If this is your first outing, I wouldn't worry about melting any tie rod ends. I don't understand putting tape over them either. Seems to me that would retain more heat. The only heat you have to worry about comes from braking. I drive/brake pretty hard and I have melted the rubber boots off the caliper pistons. I doubt you'll be doing anything like that on your first several times out. Just make sure you have the DOT 4 brake fluid and good pads. Have fun.
