Well, at 55,000 miles, it looks like my water pump needs to be replaced.
I started smelling coolant occasionally, but could never find a leak. A couple of months ago, I replaced coolant and hoses, but still found no defects in the hoses, coolant level was good, color was nice and bright (but still every once in a while, i'd get the smell).
Fast forward a couple of months. Pulled the car out this morning... there are 2 drops of coolant on the garage floor
So tonight, I rechecked everything, and now I have a nice leak
Question... Are there any differences between LS2 and LS1 waterpumps? Are they compatible? and is the LS2 pump any better?
Where did you find the leak on the engine Mazda? Can you describe it? Many water pumps have a "weep hole" that is the first indication of a leaky seal. I don't know if or where the weep hole is on an LS1.
The LS2 pump is 3 lbs lighter, and has a lower profile. Now I just have to find out if there is only one style pump for the various models.
From that thread, it sounds like you're better off with the LS1 pump unless you really need the space.
The real question is; Is that a roundhouse kick that your cat is landing on your dog's face and do you have a larger photo of that? That is the greatest avatar
