Default Body Side Moulding Removal

Hi all, I'm a new guy here. I'm currently looking for a C5. Personally I like the cars better without the factory body side mouldings. My question is that if I find a car that I like that has the factory mouldings, can i safely romove them without screwing up my paint (assuming the car's paint has not faded). I know that on my brothers T/A the mouldings were attached with double sided tape. Is this the same case with the C5. If anyone has done it are there any tips for removal? Thanks, and I'm looking forward to becoming part of the corvette family.

ask a body shop what kind of special release agent they use to soften the tape and disolve the glue.

Send me a pic after you remove the moldings.

an exacto knife has a small thin blade that works well. Use a strong light just for added protection.

Yup, a little 3M tape remover should do the trick.

This is what I did yesterday, Use a hairdryer on the highest setting start with the molding in the front fender. heat the edge closet to the door and I wedged a screw driver under the edge using the molding on the door for leverage. it will pull right off. I got the molding on the door off by heating it and then moving it up and down until it gave way.
you can use 3M Adhesive remover or I just rolled the tape off using my fingers. used some clay to clean everything up and it looks so much better without.....

The moldings are attached with two sided tape - take a hair dryer, heat up the area, then use some fishing line to saw through the tape. Carefully pull up on the molding as you are sawing - may be best to have a helper when you do this if you buy a car with the moldings.

The fishing line does the job. I have removed marker lites and reflectors off of many motorcycles using this method then soak it with super strength orange blast to remove any residue.
