Default Breaks Driving me crazy...

My stock breaks drove me crazy, and I just installed new rotors and Hawk HPS Plus Pads, and they STILL SQEEK. GRRRRRRRRRR

Does anyone know of any pads for a 04 Z, that are NOT Ceramic and WILL stop you doing 150+mph THAT DON'T SQEEEEEEEEEEEEK?

I am not a firm believer Ceramic Pads will stop you quick enough when going over 150+mph.

Thanks.

Do you want to stop or do you want quiet brakes? I don't think you can have both.

What's wrong with the stock Z06 pads? I thought that they were a great compromise between performance and noise. The only problem with them is that they dust, if that's important to you?

BTW.. The ceramic pads don't have the initial bite of a true performance or race pad, but they should work fine unless you're stopping from 150 mph repeatedly.

Im moving to Germany in two months. Unlimited speeds... may have to stop quickly going a lot faster than 150mph.

BUT THE SQEEEEKING IS SOOOOOOOO %UCKING LOUD!!!!!!!

Stock Z06 Pads would be the better choice.

If you do a lot of those high speed stops, time to look at racing pads. The can take that 900* - 1400* brake temp stops.

at those stopping powers ceramics glaze over and are history. the other challange is that race pads dont work well at the lower braking powers need for street use.

Hawk HPS willl be toast shortly and one of the biggest dusting brake pads. Hawk HP Plus have good stopping power but also dust like crazy.

Two other things you may wish to look at, brake fluid; get a high temp dot 4 like motul or Castrol SRF. The other is cooling. the more air you can get to your brakes the better.

Not true at all, the Hawk HPS pads are known for NOT being very dusty and also NOT being very noisy, the HP Plus pads are dusty/noisy. I have been using HPS's for years now and have had no problems at all and are excellent pads. There could be a couple reasons for your poor results...
1. You didn't break them in properly, VERY IMPORTANT.
2. You had oil/grease on your rotors/pads.

CAll Hawk and talk to them, they will likely give you a new set if you complain enough. THEN, break them in very carefully and you should be fine. DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE THAT SAYS BREAK-IN IS NOT NECESSARY.

I have the same exact set up.. rotors, pads and Corvette Calipers on my WS6 and they stopped great, and NEVER sqeeked. I put the new rotors and pads on the Z and the same day, Sqeeeeeek. Maybe its the climate?

Les, you are so right!

I'm sure my Carbotechs were squealing this past weekend, but at 135mph with the V-8 humming and the Borla's howling, who the h### cares?

Seriously, I agree with others that the stock Z06 pads might be the best compromise. I used them at my first DE and they did a good enough job of stopping me at high speeds.

I frankly like them MUCH better than Hawk HPS if we are talking strictly getting you down from 150mph.....

I think if someone had found the magic bullet of consistent, short stops from 150mph plus no squealing, they would be rich and we wouldn't need threads like this since we would all be using their pads!

Hawk must have changed the formulations then. The two sets of Hawk HPS that I went though were garbage. dustting soo bad it mady my yellow vette look like baby puke down the sides, and the stopping was ok at first but then fad and pad tapper. One track weekend and the pad was down to less then 20%.

as far as your items 1 and 2 above, they were bedding in propely and there was no oil/ grease on the rotors / pads. I just thought the pads sucked big time. After I went though the first set of HPS I gave the send set away and they guy who took them experience the same.

I like the HP Pluses. dusty and a bit noisey but they stopped very very well. I know lots of ppl who use the Hawk Blues, Blacks, HT10s, Ht11s and they love the pads. Extreamly dusty but stop on a dime.

Went to PCF01s for about a year, 3 weekends on the front pads and rotors and 5-6 weekends on rear pads and rotors.
Now I use Wilwood H pads, 6 weekends and the pads are still at 50%, I change pads at 50% and 2 weekends on rotors front and rear

I also used Super blue brake fluid. well I have boiled that soo many times ( full flush after each boil) that I decided time to change.

Castrol SRF fluid now.

But hey each to there own.

I ran with the stock Z06 pads in Germany, never had a problem with them. I went through pads quickly and used generous amounts of anti-squeak "grease" where the pads contacted the caliper. Before you go to Germany get the DRM ducts, DRM stainless steel caliper pistons, LGM spindle ducts, and DOT 4 fluid and you will be just fine on the autobahn. Not only hanging with Porsches on acceleration but on braking also. Black front wheels and the occasional squeak are a small price to pay for great breaking!
