Agreed, and it should happen. The new Z will have equal power, weigh less, and be easier to drive.....hey viper.....sorry about your luck!

Viper wins hands down. I drive my dads RT/10 and it is a pure rush of hp!!! The car is a blast to drive and turns even more heads than most C5's. When it comes down to it though, I still prefer the vette for an all around great car.

Vette stands no chance.
It's not only the HP, but also the torque.
Viper pulls like a freight train out of really low rpms.
I had a GenI and even won from a Z06...
Vette is the best overall package. Viper is hard to live with. Gen III better though.

It was a bad driver then. Stock Z's trap around 116. Stock SRT10's have gone into the 120's

I drove an 95 a couple years back. IMHO, it would come down to the driver. I'd agree that we wouldn't have a chance against a new one. It sux but it's true. Would love to see a race though!

Road & Track had a special on the modern sports cars, including the C6 (Z51) and a 2005 Viper. They took them around the track and guess who won? The Corvette ended up with the best lap time against the Viper, Porsches, Mercedes, etc.
Even though I'm a Vette guy, I still like the Vipers and I'm thankful that they do exist. I think that we can partially thank the Viper for the sagnificant horsepower boost that the C6 Z06 will be getting.

Played with one at one point in time and well when I was putting down around 330 hp he would steadily pull away. I think with gearing from a roll, you would get him. From a stop if you can get a good launch a vette would get a viper at least the first 1/8 mile. Im pretty sure are weight is balanced better.

I think it's kind of amusing. You are comparing your C5 to a Viper SRT-10. They are two totally different cars of different generations. The C5 is based on late 90's technology and is a much more refined sports car. The SRT-10 was built hastly to defeat the ZO6 on a staight shot. Gigantic engine + poorly built chassis = hard to drive POS. The only reason the automotive world gives them respect is because of the 85 Grand price tag and the 500hp.
