My 2004 just got the old bullet hole on the windshield look . Question is does the repair method really work or should I go for the whole enchalada and replace the windshield..

I'd suggest first going to Novus and see if they can fix it. Insurance usually covers it so it's no cost to you.

I've had good success there with other cars...

It just depends ... sometimes they are perfect repairs ... sometimes they leave a small mark. I don't like the repairs if they are directly in my line of sight though ... they usually wave the deductible for you though if you go with repair it ends up being free to you. Good luck.

My Truck got a few "cherry's" and I'll be damed, that DIY kit really worked. Just follow the instruction to a "T" and you should be OK.

You have nothing to lose..but 10.00 bucks. I used the Permatex Kit

Oh, man....in case you've missed the saga of my son buying his first Vette this last Saturday (son's first Vette/questions) we drove back from Tampa to Ga and got smothered, covered, and fried in something we'd never seen/heard of...luvbugs ....which won't come off... ...but to add to it we got hit by a boulder flying from a gravel truck ...hit smack in the windshield.....so, we're going to get it patched.....it may leave a small mark but compared to the bugsplatter it's the least of our worries right now ...good luck with your windshield!

It all depends on your deductable. I would rather keep the original one but it also depends on where the bullet hole is.

I bought a do it yourself wihdshield repair kit at Wal-Mart. It did a great job on a dime size chip in the windshield of my Eldorado. You can't find it. The kit is made by Pennzoil, and cost about $10.

Safelite did the injection repair on mine last month. My insurance company waived the deductible for the repair. They saved big bucks not having to replace windshield and I saved the deductible. Done in less than 40 minutes start to finish. Chip was on the far right passenger side. The only sign of where the chip was resembles a small water spot. Good luck with your decision.

Get them off quick as the acid eats into the paint! Put onwet towels saturated with warm (hot)water and let sit for an hour. Then rub gently with pantyhose (yes, that's right) Make sure your not scratching your paint with the pantyhose. The cure is better than the lovebugs!

I carry around a windshield repair kit at ALL times in my vette. I have had to fix it TWICE in one year. They work, and its better than getting a new overpriced windshield every time.

At lot depends on if it's in your line of sight, as someone else said, but I used Novus on a small chip/hole, and it worked great, and, as others have said the insurance companies waive the deductible.

Good luck in getting it fixed/replaced!

If you decide to replace the windshield be careful there is alot of cheap glass out there. I ordered a HUD windshield off of E-bay and it was about half the weight of stock windshield, and even though it had the correct part number Hud was unreadable. Made in China. Went with factory glass, got a good price made all the diff. in the world, buyer beware on some of this internet stuff. The company I bought it from didn't even want the windshield back, they did refund all the money, but it was a big pain in the a--.

If it's a chip that can be repaired, give that a try. Insurance should cover it in full. If not repairable, then see what a new one will cost.

Safelite repaired a "bullet-hole" shaped chip just upward and to the left of my line-of sight. Cost was $29 (not worth contacting the insurance people), repair took ~15 minutes, and it looks just like a water spot. Repair is not perfect and would not want it in my line of sight.

Also comes with a guarantee that the repaired chip will not spread.

Next time spray with a light spray (non-flavored) PAM. It works wonders.

Make sure whoever it is out of the pantyhose first.

The very first day I took my new Vette on the highway a convoy of Semi trailers coming the other way thew a large rock at my passengers side windshield. It almost went through. It was the size of a silver dollar coin. I took to our local glass shop who does these types of repairs and they were not sure if it could be repaired but they said they would try. I turned out pretty good except when the sun shines through the window you can see the cracks that spidered out from the hole. It is not perfect but at least it will delay the replacement of the windshield, which scares the hell out of me. Every time some one goes near my Vette they screw something up.
