Default solution to love bugs.

ok i got nailed with a bunch of love bugs on the way to class this morning so i've come to the conclusion I will have to carry some solution with me to correct this problem.

When i got back home, I went looking through my shelves (yes, i have shelves full, three 24X56 shelves full to be exact ) of products and the best thing I could find was some simple green, figured 407 might be too harsh, i read over the contents and well it just said keep off hot metal idems and not recommended for leather .. so i figured i'd be fine on my paint.

I added the Simple Green (about 2 fl oz) of it to 15 fl oz of water in a 25 fl oz spray bottle shook it up and gave it a go.
While spraying the frontend most of the bugs just fell off when the solution made contact. I then followed up by a water bottle full of water and soaked the front end .. then dried with a microfiber. Looks like it worked.

just thought i'd pass along my good fortune, as this is small enought to where it can be stored in the rear compartments.

[old thread]

btw. I am in no way responsible for any mishap, including but not limited to, mixing the wrong amounts, using this product, or anything that may come of using/mixing this solution.

I would suggest adding a quick coat of wax afterwards since I think the simple green will remove the wax you may have on there. It should be gentle enough to not damage the paint though.

Good solution. I'm sure there are plenty of forum members that will be interested in this.

well ask yourself this .. which is worse .. leaving the bugs on the car or possibly taking off one layer of wax?

i dont imagine another layer of wax would hurt.

Another thing that oddly enough works is dryer sheets like Bounce. Just dip them in a bucket and gently wipe. This bugs will come right off. I don't know if it takes off wax though, but it does work very well.

I have a container of bug & tar wipes, similar to dryer sheets, that does great (I think they have an enzyme that helps break up the bug goo).

My process is to rinse the big bugs off with a strong hose, wipe down with the bug & tar, rinse w/soapy water, dry.

The thing that's really bugging me is that I can't seem to find 'em in the store anymore. The container I have is from last year, and I'll be running out soon.

u cant stop the bugs, but you can outsmart them!!!

just make sure your nose has a GOOD coat of wax. down here in FL i get the lovebugs. but with a nice coat of NXT on the car, all i have to do is rinse and wipe away.

simple as that. do it. it works.

One of the few things I have no regerts about, besides humidity, lightning, and hurricanes, when I moved from Orlando to Dallas. I hope they're not moving west too.

I have found that a good coat of ReJex keeps those bugs from sticking. It is like having a coat of Teflon on your car.

I used to keep a package of Armor-All (I think) car wash wipes in the trunk; They were like baby wipes for your car. I can't seem to find them anymore and am wondering if they were pulled off the market.
They did a good job at removing bugs and bird crap.

Zaino Z8 for me. Bugs (and bug remains) just fall off with Z8. Love it. And oh yeah, I drank the Zaino Kool-Aid.

Thanks for the tip. I also believe an Oz. of prevention is worth a lb. or cure so I keep the front end waxed real good and use a GM bra durring Luv Bug season.

For years I have been using the bug sponge you can buy at the car shops for about a buck. That sponge and alittle water has worked well for the front of my cars and windshields, but I use it every day during love bug season. It will not scratch your car. Now I have a new GM bra so it is even easier and really only have to work to get the little buggers off the windshield!

Damn... when I first started reading this, I was hoping you'd be talking about chicks... I don't know if we get love bugs in Cali...
