Aesthetically speaking, the Viper does nothing for me, JMHO! Performance wise, the Viper will likely take a stock vette on a straight path, but will get its' *** handed to itself while on a real track. It's no wonder the corvette C5R always win.....come to think of it, I don't even recall seeing a viper on the track competing against the C5R's. That alone tells you alot! Oh, and its still a Dodge and I'm always partial to Chevrolet's. Again, this is all just "MY" humble opinion, but whatever flicks your switch and the light is on and burning brightly for the masses.
There were plenty of New and Old Generation Vipers last year at the World Challenge and Petit Le Mans. The biggest thing is Dodge quit supporting the Race Program shortly after the C5R program was instated...back when the C5Rs had 6.0l.I believe the first year. Dodge didn't stay long once Chevy got back into racing with the C5R...and it was good for them to quit while they were on top.
The new Generation Vipers are certainly better looking than the old generation Clownshoe. No doubts about the performance that can be achieved. The one thing that noticably stands out to me as a performance advantage (not the extra 2 cylinders, both) but the fact that the tranny is mounted in a better position (connected to the motor, all Vipers) when compared to the C5/C6 platform. Because of this the Vipe's have less drivetrain issues associated with the higher power levels. I am talking about the over 700/700 rwhp/tq setups.
If I had to buy a new car and it was a choice between a New Viper and a C6, it would be the Snake all the way. They got the looks right and the power. But given a choice between my C5 Z and any Viper, I still prefer the look of the C5 FRC over all else...plus I got some power to spare.

If i remember correctly Vipers did very well in the LeMans. I like the look of the vipers more than the vette, but thats my opinion. Vipers were in the price range of my vette when i got it but there were several factors that made me pick the vette over the viper.
I have driven several Vipers as well as Vettes....the big difference to me is the neck breaking acceleration of the Viper from a standing start! It is awesome and scarry compared to a Vette. The sound of the Vette is better than the Woosy sound of a Viper. Even when they had the side pipes, it still sounded crummy for that much horsepower coming from that V10 engine. A Viper will never be an everyday driver. It wasn't built to be one! Just my two cents worth!
