Hey guys I'm new to the forum because I am thinking of selling my Mustang and coming over to the darkside . I am 18 now but by the time I buy the corvette I will be 19. Right now my insurance is somewhat reasonable for a Mustang convertible at a little less than 150 a month. What am I looking at paying when I switch to the Corvette?
I'm paying just a hair over 200 a month for my insurance. But that came down from when i was driving a convertible Rx-7. You're just going to have to ask your insurance company what they're going to charge you, because it depends on so many different variables.
Chris
edit- best of luck on the new ride! and congradulations on seeing the light!

Way too many variables to answer. What's your driving record? Where do you live? Where is it parked? How far do you drive? Are you a student or do you work? Live with parents or alone? On parent's policy or on your own?
I would imagine it will be quite steep. Some companies give discounts (if your in school) for a good GPA, and sometimes a Drivers Ed / Defensive Driving Course. It may be a good idea at this point to list a parent as the primary driver. Beyond that, the best advice I can give is to shop, shop, shop.

Good luck with the purchase.
and welcome to the Forum Good luck with your shopping; there are a lot of nice C5's for sale out there.
I am 20 yrs old with 1 ticket on my record for speeding. I am in Houston, Tx. and my insurance actually lowered when I switched from my '01 Mustang GT Convertible to my '99 Corvette Coupe.
Damn, I guess this is one case where being "old" is a good thing! I am 30 and my insurance on the Vette for full coverage and 250 deductibles is only $53 a month!

Only your insurance co can tell you that.
Insurance rates are so unpredictable, no one here could give you a concrete answer. Location and driving record are everything when it comes to determining rates.
I would say though, chances are good a C5 will cost about the same if not less to insure than a V8 Mustang 'vert. The C5 had a very good rating as far as cars go, and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised at the rate you get quoted.
My insurance was more than my car payment until I turned 25 and got married...now it's more like $120 per month for 3 cars! Who said getting older is not the balm!

That is what I am hoping for. Or at least I hope it doesn't skyrocket. I also plan on buying a coupe. I have a clean driving record. I live in northeast ohio but I plan on moving in about a year to the Charlotte, NC area. I currently live with my parents and will for the next year and I will also be in school for the next year. I will just have to call my insurance agent but its good to hear that it shouldn't be too bad.

Hey RedRider98,
I thought you said you were "old."
Guess we 50+ year old guys are downright elderly...
You should be able to get an online quote within minutes at Progressive.com. It will at least get you in the ball park. Your insurance cost will likely drop precipitously when you move to NC. There's a positive.
You may be surprised. From what I've heard, Mustang convertibles are more expensive than a vette due to the higher risk/class based on general demographics. Call your insurance and check it out

Yes, my 02 stang GT vert costs about 5% more to insure than my 01 coupe. Quite a surprise at first but as you said, it's based on demographics
