Hurst shifter fairly loose now.....
I've only had it in for maybe 6 months now. It's pretty loose going up & down, but it's still stiff going right & left. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Ron
Which springs/spring combination do you have in it? You might want to try using the lighter springs. When I first installed my Hurst the side-to-side was so stiff, I ended up just using the softest spring in both sides.

I just used the springs that came installed on it.

Your original post says you have problems with the side to side movement. This can be resolved by switching to the softer springs that the shifter came with.

No, I mean it stiff side to side (in a good way), as it was up/down when I 1st installed it...
Ron
I'm confused. Do you mean forward and backward? Because side to side stiffness is controlled by the springs. This stiffness can be reduced with lighter springs or even removing one of the two springs on that side. If you are talking about forward and backward movement of the shifter, as in putting it in gear, there is nothing you can do about that. The shifter is just a lever, so this stiffness is the fault of your transmission. Or it may be possible that the **** on the bottom of the shifter, that goes into the shift linkage, needs greasing.

Sorry for any confusion. The side to side stiffer feeling, like when you're in neutral, I'm fine with.
When I 1st got the shifter it was similar to that while putting the car into any gear. That then decreased or I just got used to it.
Lately, since I've had a few strange things happen w/ my tranny, I've noticed that my into gear shifts seem a lot easier then I remembered...
If I grease the ***, wouldn't that just make it easier to shift?
Ron
I really doubt that is the problem but I guess you could try it. All that **** does is push the gear linkage forward or backward. It almost sounds like something in your trans is the problem.
