I have a 2001 vert with 45K miles. The dealership is telling me I need new breaks - the rotors are very thin and the pads are wearing out. I've never had to replace breaks before on any of my cars at 45K miles. Is this common ... or is he trying to get more business from an old gal? If it is common, would y'all recommend I get the Drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk pads that is on the forum? They are %589.95 for the set ... seems a bit expensive, since I'll have to pay the dealership to put them on. Thanks for any insight y'all can give me.
Well, personally i would not buy drilled rotors, they tend to crack. you can go with some great looking slotted rotors if you like. at 45k miles that does seem a little early especially for the rotors, i changed my brakes because i wanted to upgrade at 70+k.

Putting on new brakes is a snap. Maybe someone local to you can help you install them.
Check out "Sportbrakes", I think they're around $250.00 for the set.
If you go with Hawk pads, make sure you get the street version and not the track (unless of course you tarck your car often). The track version has a dark compound which sticke to your nice, shiney zinc coated rotors and makes the firepath a dull brown color. Just my $.02
Whatever the stealership ends up charging you, it will be phenominal in hindsight, if you do them yourself.

with MyVetteDream, but before you spend any money have someone you trust look at them. You can see just about everything without taking a wheel off. Just because a dealer says you need something doesn't mean it's true

Doing a brake job on a Corvette is incredibly easy. Most ANY local brake shop can do it and will save you a lot of money.
Drilled and slotted look great! If you drive and brake like most average drivers its doubtful you'll crack your rotors so I wouldn't let that concern you if you like them.
When its time to fix things its always nice to give yourself a gift and upgrade the part to something you'll like so,go for the d/s brakes if you can.

I just put sportbrakes drilled and slotted rotors with hawk street pads on my 02 vert for 350.00 but i did it myself but if you have all the parts i bet you can get it done for a 100.00 at just about any brake shop just ask around and i bet the dealer would do it for that if you got your car from them they always try to please the people that buy cars from them like corvettes are at least they do where iam from.
That's funny. I was just thinking the same thing this morning when the "WAVE" was being called the "WAIVE". So I politely stated "Don't waive the wave" in jest. I don't think anyone understood it

I got it. Thought it was an awesome dig. Subtle, but those are the best.
