Unless you track your car, you should be OK with a set of rotors like the Sportbrakes. They are relatively cheap and look good on the car. GM pads are not bad for just everyday driving.
Thanks - so I can go with a good shop I know instead of the dealership and can go with less expensive brakes. Great to know - The dealership has also told my husband that his 03 A/E will need new brakes in about 4K miles. (he only has 32K on it) I appreciate the responses. And sorry about the "breaks" vs "brakes" - it was early yesterday morning and I hadn't had enough coffee.
I have a 2001 vert with 45K miles. The dealership is telling me I need new breaks - the rotors are very thin and the pads are wearing out. I've never had to replace breaks before on any of my cars at 45K miles. Is this common ... or is he trying to get more business from an old gal? If it is common, would y'all recommend I get the Drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk pads that is on the forum? They are %589.95 for the set ... seems a bit expensive, since I'll have to pay the dealership to put them on. Thanks for any insight y'all can give me.
Just finished up installing the very same setup from the same company (Zip). I took my time in doing it and it took two days, because I painter the calipers and the lettering. Was in no hurry to do the job. That price isn't bad. I checked with Pep Boys and they were about $25.00 more for the rotors + pads (they have 3 choices of pad brands and Hawk is one of them). I just beded them in and I have no noise coming from the brakes, BUT I did notice brake DUST. I'm not sure if this is just break-in dust or will this be constent. The pads are Hawk HP-S. The hardest part for me was lifting the rear end up high enough to use the troque wrench on the 21 MM bolts. CHECK this site out for R&R of brakes.. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ad+replacement
