Yea....another great design contribution by the General Cell phone holder as well. (If GM finds out that many of us use it as a cell phone holder, they'll rename it an $$$option$$$)

I realize most of us don't use it as a cup holder.

Just think about how many test miles have been put on C5s by GM employees over the years, and how simple this problem would be to fix in the grand scheme of things.

How many designers / test engineers/ managers have sat in the driver's seat, and looked at that crap attempt at a cup holder and looked the other way?

Why would you want a drink in your car when you're planning on doing 1G?

See post #22. That's the point.

Also, this car will EASILY exceed 1G in an emergency manouver.

Why didn't they just close it in or make it a change holder.
What a waste of materials.
Console would look cleaner without it. Traps dust.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this:

If you want a drink in your C5, use a bottle!!! Unless you have a passenger with long legs, you can adjust the passenger seat so that you can hold a bottle behind the seat. Not only does this hold the bottle securely in a place where the driver can easily reach it, it also helps insulate your drink a bit.

I don't eat in my car, but you'll rarely find me without a beverage near by....

Change holder for me too! See Girl-ina-box (above). I bought one of her
cup holders and I really like it. Its adjustable and folds up out of the way
when not in use. I've tested it on some tight curves, just thrills and no
spills!

Probably the same guy who decided to call a "Performance Cup Holder" <---from the OM and the same person who decided to leave the space fot the spare tire in the design, even when the car was going to only come with EMT's. MAN! We could had the straight pipes like the C6 already! Here's a shot of some of their "Interior Design Engineers". Personally, I think it's the guy with the hat on, but I'll let you all decide ...

I tried to use the cup holder to hold coins. It even sucked at that. I just stare at it when I get in the car. And the stupid ash tray door is another questionable area. But those are about the only two things that just don't make sense in the car. That I can live with.

Ah, but the C6 has much better cup holders, and two of them! See, progress marches on! Now if they can just figure out how to make a gas gauge that works...

Dave,

I have to agree! The one in the hat is the son of the brother & sister husband and wife sitting down. Next thing you know they'll be farming out to India and having someone over there design the C7 for us. A little corporate bashing always feels good in the morning!

While we're on a rant about the brilliant engineers at the Corporal, why the hell did they design the door of the cup holder to open towards the driver instead of away? And for all you guys that don't dare drink as much as a bottle of water in your sacred car I bet most of you smoke in the Fr. What's worse spilling a little water or smelling up the interior?
