my vette is stock height and speed bumps in parking lots and angled driveways already have the car scraping. how do you guy who lower your cars manage not to tear up your front air dam piece and rip up the bottom of the car? it just seems like the car could not go lower without such damage? thanks
Wondering the same. Had my fbody pretty low and have had to ask passengers to get out so I could get into my driveway. Sure would like to do it, but hate to worry about every bump.
That little front air dam (actually those little front air dams - there are three of them) are designed to bend, that's why they're mounted on springs and unlike most vette parts, they're pretty cheap to replace.
You are going to ALWAYS scrape the front "flexible" air dams but you would have to totally "SLAM" it to be low enough to scrape the body.
Like "Jackalope" said...they are cheap to replace if you are so inclined. I use the scraping sound of the air dams as my warning device that I'm close enough to a parking bumper or that I need to take the driveway approach slightly slower. I've scraped the pi$$ out of mine since I lowered it on factory bolts but unless you are under my front end with a flashlight, you can't see any marks (they are barely even noticable as it is).
The point is:
Don't be nervous to lower you car...it's completley reversable if you don't like it. I don't think I've ever read that any CF member has reversed it after lowering. It just looks too damn good!!!
i've been driving lowered trucks and cars for years.it's like anything else, you do it long enough you learn all the tricks and you watch the road.my motto is ( lift it or lower it, don't drive it STOCK )
Those plastic spoilers under the front of the car are cheap to replace. However, the two metal crash bars and rocker panels under the car are much more costly and time consuming to replace. My car was lowered yesterday to the max of stock bolts. I have the Z51 suspension so the car only dropped about 3/4''. It isnt much but it is noticeable. Also installed were the rocker frame rails and frame savers. These will save your azz if you have a lowered vette. I bought mine from www.aandacorvette.com. Here are some pics:
thanks guys - i have the frame rail protectors and the frame saver wheels too so I will give it a try and see what happens. i have the magnetic ride control on my 03 so i hope the ride will not be compromised.
