Purchased my 04 Black on Black 6 speed last July 4. I have previously owned an 89 and 90 coupe. I have had GM vehicles for the last 30 years. My biggest complaint with my new C5 is the placement of the windshield wiper control. I had gotten used to it on the left side of the steering wheel. They put it on the right side where nothing but the ignition key had been before. At least once a driving session I accidental hit the control and the wipers go on. This is kinda embarrassing. I know that part of my problem is the 6 speed. First standard since my new 66 Corvair! I am getting better (it used to happen 2-3 times a session.) Anybody else have that problem? Does anyone have a fix such as shortening the stick by an inch or so? This would help me a lot!
Thanks 6 Speed Sid I found someone who agrees with me. Anyone with an automatic would not have a problem. It is just us 6 speed guys that are affected. Cutting an inch off that stick would help. On the 89 the control was on the door. I always had to look around when it rained. It is not often that I drive in the rain anyway. Maybe I could pull the fuse that way I will not be embarrassed when I bump it next time.
Its another of those things they copied from the Japanese that wasn't a really good idea. Now we are members of the group that run autocrosses with our windshield wipers turned on.
