Default Grond is getting Ready to Rumble !!!

The nice man in the brown van dropped this off at my door today. It gets installed right after the Cruise In.

This is a seriously wild cam - Competition Cams custom grind - 234/240 598/608 114 LSA - and sold to me by 21st Century Muscle Cars. That along with Crane Dual Springs, blueprinted oil pump, dual timing chain, new pushrods, seats, retainers, seals and locks...

Grond is getting Ready to Rumble !!!

Looks like a major CAM job EG! What made you choose that cam? Who are
you getting to do the tune?? You might do some checking around on the
springs, Comp 921's are supposed to be the best lasting duel springs out
there right now. And with that cam, your going to need'em!!

You know whats next don't you?!

Heads!!!

Good luck with the install!!

That should add some serious thump!
Are there any plans on adding aftermarket heads and intake?

Are we having fun yet? I noticed you've got it all on the stove. Are you going to heat treat it all before installation?

On the serious side. That's some pretty serious equipment you have there. I guess the install will take more than an afternoon. I am sure you'll be taking some pics of the install. I can't wait to see them.

Already have a Blackwing, smooth coupler, LS6 intake manifold etc. Heads will have to wait until my suspension is completed (right after the Cruise In). Already lined up Z06 springs (front/rear), Hotchkis sways with heim end joints (sways powder coated red ). Then it's wheels & tyres - dirt cheap chrome in either 17/18 or 19/20 (if I get them cheap or can trade for them) - wheels will be purely for the look not for performance

Wilwood brakes are next up. Handling and stopping are very important to me - more than power. If I can't control it - it doesn't matter how fast it is.

After that, gears (3.73:1 and a mild stall - Vig2800) - then, and only then will I look at Heads - probably AFR.

Long, long way to go yet. Still learning about this new fangled LS1 electronic gizmo. It's not quite like my Daddy's small block

Why this cam??? Why so big on an Auto??? Because I can. Because this car is a toy and because it fits in my long terms goals of where I want to be in a couple of years from now with Grond.

But mostly - it's for the WILD IDLE

Without the lope, you're driving a wannabe exotic (IMHO) - but that can only rev to around 6500rpm . That's one of the reasons I don't like the Corsa cat back sound. To make that sound work, you have to pull 7500rpm or more - THEN it sounds evil

Prancing Pony and Lambos do it right - love that fast, fast idle and screaming high revs. But for pure all American muscle car sound - you need a wild, outrageous cam

EG, that's cool. One question though. I thought with a 114 centerline, you won't get that "lope" you get out of say, a 104 or 106. Aren't you sc'd? I thought you were already putting out some ridiculous (500'ish) rwhp??

Perhaps I need to read more of your posts...

Thanks,
Mark

You're gonna do a cam with no heads???

At least get the ones you have ported, polished and a 3-angle valve job.

Mark,

After 3 thrown belts, the last was at 2am on a deserted piece of highway in the middle of nowhere - I sold the stock P-1SC to the same guy that turned me onto Vettes in the first place. That was several months ago. He knows about the belt throws and is/was getting an A&A blower bracket which fixes that issue.

Yes, I was at 497rwhp but the car was uncontrollable. Too much, too soon, especially for a novice C5 driver (only bought the car 8 months ago)

Lots of other reason for selling it - but mostly because I wasn't enjoying it the way I thought I would. Why? Because there was nothing there to back it up. No suspension, no handling, no brakes, no tyres, no sound and no real PermaGrin(tm).

That may sound stupid, but I wasn't getting the "muscle car" feeling. I felt like I was in a Very, Very fast Lexus. Steering was vague and floaty, suspension was soft, brakes were merely adequate, turn in was "interesting", bump steer was prevelant and the only noise was the Stingers through 4 cats.

So - I decided to do it all over again, and do it right (or rather, do it differently). To me, I want the stiff, stiff suspension, the rough ride, I want the car to feel like it's on rails, I want that h3ll raising roar of the engine when I start it and when I get on it.

I want it LOUD.

I realised that what I wanted was a "Hollywood Prop Car". It doesn't matter if it's "really" fast - as long as it "looks" and "sounds" fast. It's a Poser, essentially. With only Type-R badges...

I had a sleeper and didn't love it as much as having probably 150rwhp LESS - but enjoying it much, much more.

114 vs 104/106/112 - I had to draw the line somewhere - it IS a slush box after all 114 with that stupid amount of lift and l-o-n-g duration will give me the aural feedback I crave.

Cheers

Stephen
