I used a claybar on an area of concern (aka bird ****) but it did nothing. I cannot feel any change in smoothness of the area, the paint looks good, but at an angle, the area is visible. I imagine I'll need it wet sanded out someday.

A while back I put a two foot long, 1/8 in wide scratch down to bare metal over the wheel well of my Silverado pickup. Because it was so bad, I felt I didn't have a lot to lose so I bought some Plasti-kote touch up paint, clearcoat, and leveler at Pep Boys. The leveler is amazing! It removes the touch up paint and smoothly levels it to the level of the factory paint. The bottle claims it will not remove the factory paint. I was supposed to apply the clearcoat, then after a short drying time, apply the leveler to the area where I touched up the clearcoat. It looked so good, I didn't bother to touch up the clearcoat. My boss, who had seen the damage, did not believe I didn't take it to a body shop. A year later it, still looks good.

I'm not sure I would mess with the finish on my Vette, but if nothing else works, and the alternative is getting it painted because of bird droppings, I think I would give this stuff a try on the Vette.

3M Swirl Mark Remover for Dark Colored Cars
...might take several applications and some grease of the elbow...
You'll probably want to wash the area and Z5 - Z2 after.
- good luck -

Boy, did I start a s#%t storm when I posted a similar problem last June... Initiated a scientific debate on the pH of bird droppings and other boring stuff. Still have the marks on my mag red clear coat... Don't believe the Dawn and Clay Bar hype. I just didn't have the you-know-whats to apply anything abrasive for fear of making a small problem worse. Lesson learned: if you see droppings, REMOVE THEM ASAP before they etch your clear coat, even if it means buying bottled water and using the t-shirt on your back to wipe it up. Preferably your girlfriends t-shirt, though, and make sure to apply the water before she takes it off! - ad

exactly! this is the best advice anyone can give. birds eat nasty stuff and a dropping on your vette must be treated as an emergency.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I will definitely give some of them a try.

Since I have the Mequirs scratch remover I going to start there. Will let you know how I come out!

I would be really surprised if the Scratch X doesn't work.....I was pretty concerned about what it would do to the finish and I was surprised that it didn't dull the surrounding area at all. I can't see them at all and I think I have a pretty critical eye.
