Expect it will happen again soon...

Get the bypass from COH! I was one of those "It can never happen to me" people. Until it did. Then I took it to the dealer for the recall (a good dealer). The next day it locked up again. Installed the bypass and no problems since.

The first thing would be to kick yourself in the butt for not taking care of it before.

Get a bypass sooooonnnn. Either the harness K from GM which is what I have and it's been great. No problems at all. Or the CLB form a forum vendor. But get one. Or you could be left stranded where you don't want to be. Good luck with it.

A CLB may or may not resolve your problem. I got that message the day I took delivery of my 98 coupe about 3 months ago. I bought a CLB kit from a forum dealer. The kit came with a note that said the CLB may not work for all C5's. Well, it didn't work for me but fortunately, they took it back (less a restocking fee of 20%). I took the car to my dealer, and they said it had already had the recall done on it, but I pointed out that the steering column still locked. So they looked into it and found the other dealership had not done it correctly. So they did the recall again and I have not had a problem since then. Good luck!

Thanks for all the BAD news guys......pretty much what I expected.

I guess to keep any possible insurance issue off my back I will have the recall taken care of and THEN get a CLB to really solve the problem.

Thanks again for the info.......anyone else?

You can expect it to happen again until at some point you are stranded. Get the Column Lock Bypass and not worry about it again.
