Both tops have their pros and cons. Personally, I prefer the painted top. The glass top just heats up the car too much, especially when parked. I may buy a glass top for the winter ( IF I can find a well priced used one ), but I prefer the painted top the rest of the year. In Florida, and especially South Florida, I would go for the painted top. Even with the dot-matrix liner, my interior really heated up. I also like the look of the painted top better.
I also live in Texas, I use the glass top from mid September to late May before the temp reaches HOT...much cooler with the solid top but not as nice as looking up and seeing the sky.
Did you ask if this would raise your insurance? or do you just pay the deductible and its all good? I was wanting to report it on my policy but I do not want a rate increase, so I have just dealt with the glass roof.
Advice is appreciated
I will ask my insurance company tommarrow about a rate increase. I was thinking it might be a few dollars but nothing substantial. I am going to go with a used glass top. I put one on today and the cockpit looked pretty cool. I assume the blue tint is the only way they come? I think the black top will look pretty cool on my Quick Silver C5 with blackouts. I am actually looking forward to a little change. Go figure, you forget to clamp down your top and you get another Mod and a couple hundred dollars spending money from Allstate. Down the road I can get a used hard top and have it painted if the heat is too much. Thanks for all the input.
Even though my tinted top seals better, I use my solid top all the time. I like the way it looks, and can do without the extra heat. How often do you get to look up while driving, and what can you actually see through that top anyway?
I've got both. I bought the solid top for the summer heat here in Georgia but if I had to go with one, it'd be the glass. I can live with the heat. Mine's got a good AC.

One day when I was driving through Nevada and seen a sign posted on the freeway that read something to the effect of "Patrolled by Aircraft". I was clipping along at about 90mph, and when I looked up I did see a Police Patroll Plane directly above me. So I reset the cruise to 75 and a mile or two up the road was a Leo with a customer! I never would have seen that plane with the solid top
Saved my butt that time!

And to think I have always thought those signs were a scam
I've used the translucent top in the extreme heat of AZ, CA & NV in the month of August with no complaints. Yes you can feel some heat radiate from the top, but nothing my A/C unit can't eliminate. The extreme heat is hard on the top though. So if it's going to be sitting out in such heat for an entire day or two, I'll typically take the solid top instead. However, I personally prefer the more open feeling of the translucent top. Plus I think it looks better

I will generally use the solid top for a longer trip since it is quieter. I really like my glass top but do end up swapping it for the solid top on the really hot days. If I had to pick one it would be glass.
I live in Alabama and have both tops. My car has to sit outside in the heat sometimes and it can get pretty hot with the glass top. I like the glass better, but I use the normal one sometimes for heat issues. My glass top also rattles a little bit where my painted one does not, but the painted top leakes just a tad when washing the car.
I have both, use both, and prefer the glass top. As stated above, the glass top is good for spotting CHP aerial.
I'll switch to the solid top around June and go back to the glass around the end of September.
One thing I have noticed, and a few others have, too, is that the glass top seems to be a bit shorter from front to rear than the solid top. That's made for a bit of a rattle from the glass top under certain circumstances, no matter what I do with the latch adjustments. HTH.

If you live where the temp gets really hot, the glass roof will make the interior warmer. However, being able to see out of the top is very nice. Plus when you go to take the top off, it is much lighter than the fiberglass one. Its really just a matter of preference, but when I had my '99 with the dual top option, I ran the glass one 99% of the time.
