I have both tops and use them both. If the insurance company is paying for one top, then buy the painted one. I believe the Lexan tops are cheaper. Hope this helps.
Not so much that I agree that the Lexan top is cheaper but that the color matched top is less available. You can buy a good lexan from C5 Parts for Sale at a good discount because they are a generic targa that fits all of the C5 series coupes.
When I had my C5 coupe, I used both tops, changing them out depending on the weather. I liked the color matched top during the peak of summer and depths of winter and used the lexan for spring and fall. On my Mag Red coupe, the smoked lexan looked great for cruising, too.
Ihave both tops too.I leave the solid top on,to me the car looks better with the painted top.I have a black car to so you dont notice it as much.Being that you have a pewter car AND you live in the south id go through your insurance and stay with the painted top.Your car WILL look different with the glass top, cool still but different.Iguess i have to get some of those reminder flags to hang in my car.Icant belive how much this happens.i feel for you.Good luck with what ever way you go.......kevin
It's too hot for the glass top in the summer. I have to replace the glass top with the painted top in late April. I put the glass top back on in November.

I have both tops and what I find is that I continually get caught up in a revolving door. I put the solid top on for awhile and love the look on the outside, but when I am driving I look up and say "I wonder what the clouds look like???" Then I switch to the glass top and after driving it awhile and looking at the scenery, I say "I can't believe I would even think of ever using the solid top". Then after a week or so, I look at the solid top in my garage and say "Well, I have it, I may as well use it!" so I switch and as soon as I put it on I say "WOW, that looks so much better than the clear top from the outside... and so the vicious cycle continues on... ALL GOOD THOUGH!

Saved my butt that time!
Just point your radar detector straight up............
I have the glass roof and love it, but live in a much cooler climate. Just another thing to consider; if you race and depending on your height, the top of your helmet may scratch the inside of the glass top (if it is in place).
I'm only average height and with the seat as low as it can go, my helmet does contact the top. The padding on the body colored top makes this a non issue.
