Sorry to get in on this one a little late.

The price seems a tad high to me also. I got my 02 20k mile mag red well optioned vert for $34.5k 4 months ago.

Do what I did.

Go to autotrader.com and do a detailed search of the same car through out the entire country. Choose the same color and transmission. be sure to search verts with the same or close mileage.

Plenty of cars will come up. Find the lowest priced ones (not the highest) and print them out. Take them to the dealer and make your offer.

Enjoy your new ride...you'll get it.

Way too much!! Why take a chance with a potential oil burning 01?? Be patient and a better 02 or 03 will come along..

I paid $27,500 for my 01 TR coupe in March 04 at Ross Downing Used Cars. It is a 1SC with every option. Had 42,000 miles, but was in perfect shape. Dealer was asking $32,500. I told them I could go to Jason at the new car lot and get an 04 with 0 miles for $38,000, why would I pay $32,500 for an 01. They told me to walk, so I did. 30 seconds later, he chased me out to the lot and said we had a deal.

Make a deal, or keep shopping!!

BTW - No oil consumption on this one.

I understand how you feel.I know you want that car.The thing is there will be other Corvettes and other opportunities. You will be kicking yourself if you pay $35,000 for an 01.Just have faith and be patient look around. There are good deals out there. As hard as it is try and take your emotion out of it.

They're asking way too much. I have a friend who is the inventory manager at a local Chevy dealership. They had a spotless, almost like new 2002 Electron Blue convertible loaded out with 1SC package, polished wheels, CD changer, Z51 package and 6 speed with only 15K miles. He offered this car to another acquaintance of mine for $31,900 just over a month ago.

Good luck finding the right new ride.

I paid much less for almost the same thing a year ago. I bought an 01 vert (it was white not yellow) with 16,000 miles and Z51 for 33,500 a year ago. I thought I paid a little too much then, so 35,000 is way too much now.

I think I should have paid about $32,000 but had an awful time finding a speedway white vert with black top/interior with a MN6 and Z51. So, I went for it thinking I wouldn't easily find another one. Speedway white was not a very popular color. It was worth it to me to pay the extra $$$ to get what I wanted. Sometimes supply and demand works in the seller's favor but I think you can find other yellow/black/black verts with Z51 for a much lower price than 35,000.

Good luck on your search.

I agree with everyone above. Too much money. Dealers will drop the price on any given car at the end of the month so they do not have to pay "flooring" charges (interest) on new cars due at the beginning of each month. Likewise on used cars salesmen want to make their quotos, get there bonuses for certain set sales figures and sales mgrs. want to keep their jobs by having good sales figures for the month.Tthey get nervous and very flexible on price near months end. Keep looking, go 02 to eliminate oil problems and you get the LS6 intake and 5 Hp. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info and opinions!

So is an '01 really that bad? If I do have this oil consumption problem how can I correct it and what kind of a hassle will it be? I'll do some forum searching on that one.

Yeah I've only been looking for a week or two and I have a car that I love that works so I'm in no rush. But once it got real when I actually found a local yellow convertable... I wanted to write a check right there. But don't worry the salesman didn't know that. I didn't buy a house in Orange County by my 24th birthday by being a fool.

I'll keep you guys updated! But in the meantime tell me about this oil consumption......

I have an '01 A4 with no oil or any other prob's. From what I read, the 6 speed had the oil problem, but not 100% sure on that.

I'd say they're at least 5k too high.

Too high on the price. Offer them $30K and see what they say. If the don't come down substantially, walk away. There are many others out there. Just be patient and the right car at the right price will come along.

I agree with the majority.....a bit high, but if you could get her for a range of $31K to $33K I think you would have a good deal. Keep us posted.

in nov 03 i bought almost the same car, but it was a 00.

they wanted 34500. i told them 30k and didn't budge. it took a few days, but they gave in.

imo, i wouldn't pay more than 30 flat.

I have an 01 and NO oil consumption problem. That is the double edge sword with this forum....people tend to get carried away "DONT BUY AN 01 OR YOU'LL HAVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM FOR SURE" let's all relax here geez. Yes some 01's have this issue, but NOT ALL , just like every single C5 is guaranteed to have Column Lock...it's a problem yes, but not for every single car! There are 1,000's of people out there that have vettes that are not on this forum that may or may not have some of these issues. Do your homework with the dealer, see what work has been done to the car, get the vehicle history etc..
Not trying to flame anyone here, we are all just trying to be helpful by volunteering what we know, and what you should watch out for.
For the car you are considering I would not pay more than 29k.
The main thing here is not too rush, there are plenty of good used C5's out there so if this one does not work out, they'll be another.
Remember not all 01's are cursed
Good luck.

be wary of asking peoples oppinions on price here... people will tell you the car $29-30.... or some other lowball figure... just cuz one schmuck out there sold their car for that low doesn't make that the going price...

The California KBB private party price on that thing is about 35k... Thats Private party... most people sell theirs for over private party... somewhere in between private party and retail... of course that is central CA figures... it may be worth less in your neck of the woods... but i doubt that much more.. certainly not in the range some people are talking about here... and remember.. the more anxious you sound to buy the car, the firmer they will get on their price... YOu have to be strong enough to walk away and let them chace you... if your not strong enought to do that, you will get boned... the dealers know what the cars are worth and what they paid for them... that is their business... and they have to make money... so if you want some moron to sell you the same car for $24k, like some may suggest, you cant go to a dealer.. cuz your only going to find a "deal" like that from some idiot who doesn't know the value of their car.. and if their not informed enough to know the value of their car, I would assume their not informed enough to know how to properly maintain and treat their car... jmho
