Default Help me buy this Corvette!...

05-31-2005 update: They wouldn't even budge lower than $35k! Damn stealerships!

Story on third page!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

This is nerve-racking. Haha! I need opinions and advice!

Here's the Vette...

2001
Convertable
26,000 miles
Yellow
Z51 suspension

It's being sold at a Chevy dealership. They initially wanted $36,000 for it and over the phone "they'll take $35,000".

My good friend who had worked in the GM Dealership industry for 10+ years said that I shouldn't pay more than $2500-3000 more than Kelley Blue Book TRADE-IN VALUE. He is 100% positive that if I wait until the last day of the month I can get a great deal like that. But this is Memorial Day weekend and DAMN you know how it was when you were going to buy your first Vette! I'm so anxious that someone is going to get it.

Also I need a great deal because I'm going to want to purchase a very good warranty, extra $2000-4000. For your information they just got it in 05-23 as a lease return and they put on new brakes and windshield arms (woo... um hoo).

I can't stand getting ripped off even $1000 more than the car is worth. It's only a week to wait to save a couple thousand dollars but someone's going to steal my car! And it seems hard to find an 01+ yellow convertable locally!

What do you guys think???

sounds high to me. I bought a 99 coupe mn6 for 20K with 50K miles. It is immaculate and lived in the garage. I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions...

A friend of mine bought a new 04 conv and paid 46K in 04.

Get that price down to 30K and that would probably be pretty fair.

35 seems high to me. I'd shoot for 30-32.
Good luck.

I wouldn't pay more than $32,5 out the door. If you have money to burn, than go for it. If you are looking for a deal, I'd wait until fall or spring. FYI, I bought my 01 coupe a4 with 37 for $25. Tis the season for sports car tax...

AS they say in the business "There is an *** for every seat" you would be a real *** to buy this car for 35,000. A year ago they were selling brand New 04 Commemorative coupes, and Z06's for 36,000 at Kerbeck, one of my close friends bought one. a Low Mileage 01 ( always a threat of an oil consumption issue ) vert is worth about 26/28,000 max in this market. An 01 C5 always throws up a red flag. There is a thread in the C5 section where someone recently bought a new 04 coupe for 35,000.

Hello, 35K is a little high for the car even though you are looking at some extra cost options like MY paint and Z51. You should be able to talk the dealership down, 32K-33K is a fair price. $2000-$4000 is way too much for an extended warranty. Check out warrantbynet or warrantydirect. Good luck and I hope you get the Vette.

Don't know where you are at, but they have two yellow Verts at Pulte Chevy in Lebanon OH and a FRC.
I'll look at them after the CF Cruise in if you'd like.
Didn't check the years, but they are fine!

FYI some of the 2001 cars had oil consumption problems. If you can get the VIN, I'm sure one of the good people on the forum here could do some research on it. The price they are asking is too high in my opinion. If you are willing to wait I think you could make a better deal. You may want to check Autotrader and see whats out there. Just remember don't ever feel pressured, there are a lot of cars out there.
Check www.corvetteactioncenter.com for TSBs and such. Also, run the vin with carfax. Good luck

He is 100% positive that if I wait until the last day of the month I can get a great deal like that.
The end of the month is the best time to buy from a dealer... They are trying to make quota, get their incentives, etc...

I'd hold out for less $$$...

Too much money. Keep looking, the dealer knows how bad you want that car. A better deal will come along.

I would want to talk to the person that had this car leased before I jumped. . For some reason I never liked to buy leased cars as some owners know they are going back and may not take the best care. Just some thoughts. There are a lot of Vettes out there.

Price is too high, should be around $30K-$31K. Check with Fichtner Chevy or Warranty Direct for a good price on a warranty.

FYI:
I know a 2002 Z06 with 3300 miles on it (no not 33,000) that sold for $35.5K this past Jan '05.

That's a h3ll of a lot more car for less $$$$ than this deal. Stealerships

Too high. I bought mine several months ago for $32K. Very similar to what you are talking about and it had $8K of mods and ext. warranty.
